Mother India has been serving their popular menu in Leicester for over 15 years. The restaurant on Melton Road specialises in traditional Indian and Indo-Chinese dishes, set in a modern, warm and welcoming setting.

The family run restaurant embodies the true “Mother India” vibe, with Trishan serving us and talking through the menu, whilst his Mum helps front of house and his dad is busy in the kitchen. The open kitchen is a great feature of the restaurant, and it’s clear that dishes are freshly prepared to order for customers.

The menu includes traditional Indian options alongside Indo-Chinese dishes. Perfect for a family meal, they’ve also earmarked some of the dishes that are suitable for children clearly on the menu, including the Hakka Noodles and Sweet & Sour Chicken.

Manchurian Garlic Chilli Paneer and Hakka Noodles

Mother India also offers a range of options when it comes to your spice preferences, so is a perfect choice for a group meal out to cater for those with different tastes. One of the stand out starters, Garlic Chilli Paneer, comes prepared in a choice of Manchurian or Szechuan style, and is a must order dish. Settling on the (less spicy) Manchurian option, the paneer was crispy, beautifully flavoured and served as an incredibly generous portion.

Veg Manchurian

For vegetarians, there are some beautiful dishes on the menu. The Veg Manchurian offers a perfectly crispy veg starter, with mixed vegetables rolled into balls, coated and fried in their beautiful Manchurian sauce. Moving onto the main courses, don’t miss the Veg Hydrabadi, for anyone who prefers a creamy curry, this beautiful dish features vegetables in spinach base sauce, with fenugreek, paneer, and a delicious creamy texture.

Veg Hydrabadi

Of course, there’s plenty on the menu for meat eaters. Mother India offers a range of sizzler platters, which again can be done to suit different spice preferences. Their curries also really pack a punch, with stand out options including traditional home style Deli Lamb on the Bone Curry, and their medium spiced Karahi, cooked with onions and tomatoes in a cream spicy sauce.

Again, the main courses make sure to point out child friendly dishes, with an extra mild Chicken Tikka Masala proving a popular choice.

Every dish we tried at Mother India was superb, with the Veg Hydrabadi and the Chilli Paneer undeniably the stand out favourites.

The restaurant team have worked hard to maintain the true feeling of “Mother India” throughout, from the interior, to the service to the traditional and freshly prepared dishes. Of course it’s a competitive field in Leicester, but for those looking for a new venue for a group meal out or a family get together, Mother India gets a very big Cool As thumbs up.
