Diary Dates

Sam Carter – Wednesday 1 May
The Musician

Having spent the last few years busily honing his craft both as a writer and performer, and described as an acoustic virtuoso reminiscent of John Martyn, Sam Carter is armed with a ‘killer voice’ (Nitin Sawhney) and his ability to play the guitar ‘like a harp’ (Time Out).

Liqueur – Saturday 4 May
Duffy’s

Enjoy a Saturday night out to your favourite tracks for The Cure as this tribute act comes to Duffy’s.

Sunbirds – Saturday 4 May
The Soundhouse

Co-founder of The Beautiful South, Dave Hemingway returns with his 6-piece Americana influenced Indie Folk band Sunbirds. Expect songs from their critically aclaimed debut album Cool To Be Kind as well as brand new material intertwined with one or two classics from Dave’s undeniable legacy.

Kathryn Roberts & Sean Lakeman – Sunday 5 May
The Musician

Two of the British folk scenes most accomplished performers, Kathryn and Sean have graced stages the world over in a number of guises, however, the intimacy and strength of passion shown as a duo, combined with an eclectic repertoire ensures a rare treat for any listener.

Willie J Healey – Wednesday 8 May
O2 Academy Leicester

Willie J Healey operates within his own lane. This is a musician who can write about any topic that grabs his attention: from wry observationals and the innocence of young love, through to gothic visitations from the devil and alien abductions. He’s unconstrained by genre, moving at will between scrappy garage-rock, evocative Americana and sumptuous psychedelia. And it’s all his own work, the product of obsessively writing song after song in his studio/garage/bedroom.

Ocean Colour Scene – Friday 17 May
O2 Academy Leicester

Ocean Colour Scene’s rip-roaring live shows have long been one of the most extraordinary sights in modern rock, which boast the most life affirming sing-a-longs you’ll ever hear. They lit up the Britpop party, chalking up three Top five albums – Moseley Shoals, Marchin’ Already and 1999’s One From The Modern with a run of Top 20 single’s including the immortal “The Riverboat Song”.

James Walsh – Friday 17 May
The Soundhouse

AKA the frontman of indie troubadours Starsailor. Older, wiser – and a father – he’s looking forward to “doing something different for a while”, setting off in a different ship but touching people once again, which could include anything from writing more songs with Suzanne Vega or fulfilling a lifetime ambition to write with Shelby Lynne.

BMX Bandits – Friday 24 May
The Musician

Indie legends who split to form Teenage Fanclub. But they have been known to reform for special occasions, So, make sure you get down there because it might be a long time before another comes along!

PREVIEW: Match day music at Leicester Tigers

Music plays such an important part in sport. From fan celebrations to pre-match playlists, it’s music that will get both the players on the pitch and the fans up for the game. At Leicester Tigers, music is part of the whole match-day experience, from outside on the plaza, in the stadium, and for the post-match party. For the last 2 seasons, PPL PRS has been working with the players and backroom staff to bring spectators the best, and most interactive, music experience when watching sport.

For every single Leicester Tigers match day a different member of the Tigers squad selects their own playlist of the music that gets them the most up for a game, and not only that but the fans get their say too. Yes, you can also submit your choice of match day playlist, where you could get to see your name up on the big screen, and on the team’s social media channels.

You can see the Leicester Tigers pick of the tracks below:

Leicester Tigers are next in action versus Bristol Bears on Saturday 27 April. Fans can now submit their own playlists and also have the chance of winning a signed Tigers shirt. Head over to the Leicester Tigers website to enter.

Also, whether you’re heading to the match or not, why not head down to the plaza outside Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium and soak up the pre-match atmosphere. PPL PRS will be celebrating their partnership with Leicester Tigers throughout the day and there will be live music from FuFu Sailors out on the plaza pre-match. You can also meet the PPL PRS team and pick up some goodies, as well as enjoy the excellent selection of street food traders outside and grab a drink from the bar.
