INTERVIEW: The Musical Youth Project

Aimed at encouraging young people in Leicester to put their passion into music, and offer a pathway away from anti-social behaviour, The Musical Youth Project offers access to studio time for those aged 10-16 in Leicestershire. We caught up with them to find out more about the project.

How would you describe what The Musical Youth Project is about?

The musical youth project aims to inspire and motivate young people to adopt a positive mindset in order to make them feel understood. We offer sessions to youth aged 10 – 16 years paid for by the sale of wristbands to the community.

We intend to provide a positive environment where youth steer away from antisocial behaviour.

How important is it for children to have access to music facilities?

It is extremely important as youth culture is heavily influenced by music and nowadays it is much more common for young people to aspire to a career in the music industry.

What are your main aims for the project?

At the musical youth project our main aim is to benefit the young people of Leicester and the general community by encouraging the young people to disassociate from anti-social behaviour, drugs and violent crime by changing the mindset from negative to positive and challenging the typical stereotypes through the creation of positive music as we believe the two are intrinsically linked.

We believe that if the young people are influenced by the right types of music that the outcome will be positive and have an immediate impact on the community and society as a whole.

Who is The Musical Youth Project aimed at?

The Musical Youth Project is aimed at 10 to 16 year olds wanting to try something new, get a insight into careers in the industry, or young people who may be going down the wrong path.

We intend to give them all a positive place to come to away from the street.

What partners are you working with in Leicester?

We have worked with Pedestrian, Eava FM, Softtouch, Blaby Council, 2 Funky Empire, The Kaine Foundation and more.

Where can people find out more and get involved?

The best way is to email: [email protected] or on www.instagram.com/@musicalyouthproject_cic or on Facebook Musical Youth Project.
