If you’re looking to get active in Leicester, then a bouldering session at Social Climbing absolutely needs to be on your list.

The bouldering venue first opened in September 2018 and they’ve just reopened their doors following lockdown. We had a chat with centre manager, Hannah, to find out more for this week’s BID Spotlight.

So what is Social Climbing? Hannah quite simply describes bouldering as “the best way to exercise, develop your brain and be social”. With benefits for both your mental and physical wellbeing, it’s a great way to be active whilst having enormous fun.

As the venue is classed as an exercise facility they’ve been able to reopen their doors post-lockdown and have taken steps to ensure the venue is fully Covid-safe. Vistiors will receive a safety briefing when they arrive as well as there being additional sanitising points throughout the venue. Capacity is also now more limited so bookings are recommended wherever possible.

They’re now offering their kids classes again but adult coaching won’t resume until 17 May in line with government restrictions.

According to Hannah the beauty of Social Climbing is that it’s such a perfect venue for all sorts of occasions and groups, from first dates to days out with the kids. It’s fun, it’s safe and it’s perfectly located at the back of Highcross.

In fact their location is very unique, being one of the only city centre bouldering sites in the UK. Keep your eyes peeled soon though as they’re set to be opening their second Leicestershire venue in the coming months.

Since opening in 2018 the venue has been a huge hit, with high repeat visitors. In fact, for those who are big bouldering fans you can also buy membership so that you can come back as often as you like.

Whilst it’s classed as a sport and exercise facility, Hannah also comments that it’s far more than that. “We’re really a visitor attraction, not just sport. You don’t need to be super fit to be able to come down and enjoy the venue either. We welcome all ability levels and it’s all about enjoying yourself.”

Social Climbing is open now at Highcross Leicester (East Bond Street). The venue is suitable for adults and children aged 5+. To find out more and to book your slot visit the Social Climbing website.
