Leicester primary school pupils with a flair for art now have the chance to win a beautiful wildlife-themed graffiti mural for their school.

Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust is challenging children to create a piece of art that shows off the UK’s wonderful wildlife with its new Wild Art Competition.

The contest is open to all primary school children in Leicester. A panel of expert judges including local artists will pick the top three entries, who will each receive a set of art materials and a prize for their school.

The entry judged to be the very best will win a graffiti mural created by artists from Graffwerk, the team behind Leicester’s brilliant Bring the Paint Festival, to bring a splash of colour to their school walls.

The competition launches this month and entries must be submitted via schools by Monday 14th June 2021. The competition is supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, through the Trust’s Wild Forest School project.

Tim Graham, Chief Executive of Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust, said: “With spring upon us, nature is bringing lots of colour to our lives. We are challenging Leicester’s primary school pupils to explore the outside world and use inspiration from the natural beauty that they see to create their own piece of artwork.

“We have some fantastic prizes up for grabs, and we are really excited to be working with Graffwerk to offer a graffiti mural for the overall winner’s school. We can’t wait to see what pupils come up with.”

Izzy Hoskins, From Graffwerk, said: “We’re very excited to be working alongside Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust to deliver this activity. It’s great to see young people engaging with the arts and this project supports this with a really positive approach.”

Entries to the Wild Art Competition can use any material, but must be created flat on an A4 piece of paper and feature wild animals and/or plants found in the UK, along with a short description of why the subject was chosen. The deadline for entries is Monday 14th June. All entries must be submitted via schools, with a maximum of six per school put forward for judging.

Bring the Paint will return to Leicester in 2021, running from 23rd to 29th August.
