Our September picks were such a hit that we’re back with more foodie tips for October. Looking for something new for lunch or an afternoon treat? You won’t want to miss out on any of these!
POUTINE AT PLUKD
Leicester’s favourite new chicken wing spot is Plukd on Narborough Road and now as well as doing some of Leicester’s best wings they’re also dishing up Leicester’s own spin on poutine. Yes, the Canadian special of chips, gravy and cheese curds has had a Leicester twist with stilton added to the toppings. The Plucked Poutine costs £4.50 and is available through October.
THE CANDY SHOP SHAKE FROM RICKSHAW RICKS
We thought we should add in a dessert to the mix and this Candy Shop Shake from Rickshaw Ricks (Granby Street) is utterly ridiculous, but in a great way! Your vanilla ice cream shake comes topped with whipped cream, bakery spun candy floss, plenty of candy, a cone, more candy, and a slathering of cream cheese frosting around the glass. Its £4.99 and the perfect autumn treat.
MAC & CHEESE BALLS WITH BACONAISE AND THE BEETLEJUICE FROM MEATCURE
Oh man, we couldn’t decide between these 2 October specials at Meatcure so what the hell, we’re including them both! First up, Meatcure’s secret recipe Mac & Cheese balls (£4.50) come served with their own Baconaise. Mac, cheese, bacon, mayo… there’s nothing not to love about that! Secondly, October sees the return of last year’s Halloween special, The Beetlejuice (£8.95). This beast of a burger includes Meatcure’s beef patty, a whole portobello mushroom, black pudding, triple layered cheese and chilli marmalade. Both specials are available until the end of October in Leicester, Market Harborough and Hinckley.
FIT BOWL AT BONEYARD
Because eating out doesn’t have to mean being overly indulgent (not always, anyway). We’re used to burgers and snatch at Boneyard (Granby Street) but now they’ve brought out a range of nutritionally balanced meals that they’ve named Fit Bowls. Packed full of protein, natural carbs and vitamins, the fit bowls will see you through your workout and work day in a delicious way! Priced at £4.95 make sure you nip in for your lunch or you can get them straight to your door through Deliveroo.
HOLLY BELL’S BROWNIES AT ST MARTIN’S COFFEE
Because you can’t beat a good brownie! Holly Bell was a finalist on The Great British Bake Off and she’s since become somewhat known for her brownies. Now you can get your brownie fix anytime you want as they’re now stocked at St Martin’s Coffee. Made with free range eggs, all butter no margarine and Belgian chocolate, they have all the indulgent goodness, but nothing nasty, plus there’s a Lotus Biscoff version which makes us pretty happy! Other available flavours are Peanut Butter & Jelly and Triple Chocolate. £2.20 each.
