Gaz Brookfield – Wednesday 26 October
The Musician

Anti-folk artist and winner of Acoustic Magazines’s UK singer-songwriter competition. His songs are instantly accessible, everyman tales of life, love and everything else in between. Played in a folk-ish style with occasional use of the guitar as a percussive tool, as well as some two handed venturing around the fretboard, Gaz’s simple yet poignant songwriting captures the imagination of the listener.

INTERVIEW: Morgan Munroe

Leicester-born, London-based singer/songwriter Morgan Munroe recently released her 9-track EP, ‘Elvira’. Now she’s heading out on a UK tour to promote it – the first UK tour she’s undertaken. We caught up with her to find out what’s in store.

How would you describe your music to anyone who isn’t familiar?
Soulful, eclectic, RnB.

Tell us about your music background in Leicester?
Leicester is where I began my journey in music. To begin with, it gave me a platform to experiment with sounds freely, and be confident and comfortable to create with no boundaries or rules. That’s definitely something that’s stuck with me when it comes to my music.

Which 3 artists would be listed in your “for fans of” section?
Teyana Taylor, Frank Ocean and Ari Lennox.

What are you most looking forward to about being out on tour?
I’ve n
ever been on tour before so I’m just excited about the whole thing, to be honest! I’m looking forward to exploring a couple of new cities and connecting with some new people whilst there! As well as Leicester, the tour will visit Glasgow, Brighton, London, and Leeds.

What do you think it is about Leicester’s music scene that makes it special?
It’s small and well connected, everyone pretty much knows everyone, it’s a nice community to be a part of.

Which artists do you most look up to?
Frank Ocean, Jazmine Sullivan, Solange Knowles, James Blake, and Kendrick Lamar.

What else is coming up for you after the tour?
More music, more shows, more progression and success. 🙂
