Have you spotted Leicester’s newest city centre Indian dining spot? Indiana is open now on Granby Street and with a modern and bright interior with Insta friendly neon signs, does the food match up to the style?
The menu covers a range of classic Indian dishes, with the restaurant promising both freshness and flavour. Alongside the food, they offer a wide ranging drinks menu with a good selection of beers, wines, spirits, cocktails and their special Masala Cocktails.
Off to a good start with a pickle tray packed with spice and flavour, we moved onto starters of Masala Fish and Indo-Chinese Mogo Fries. The Masala Fish was served as a large portion that could easily have been a main course, or offers a perfect sharing starter with a sizzling spicy finish.
Continuing on the fish theme we selected main courses of Meen Moilee (a fish curry from the coastal regions of India, cooked in a garlic chilli and tamarind paste and finished with coconut milk) and the Salmon Tikka, which came served as two sizeable portions of salmon fillet, cooked perfectly with a pleasant, but not overpowering, spice finish. The Meen Moilee was the standout dish, with the coconut milk bringing a slight sweetness alongside the spice in the curry. A beautiful dish.
One observation on the menu is that it would have been nice to see some vegetable side dish options, but this didn’t take away from the experience during our meal. Overall our experience of Indiana was very positive. The interior has been well thought out, the prices are reasonable and the portions are sizeable. With their cocktail and drinks menu also packing a punch, it’s a great option for catching up with friends when you’re in town.
P.S. They also offer a more compact lunch menu of street food starters and Thali from 11.30am – 4pm. The main a la carte menu is available from 5pm.
