Leicestershire pub The Stag & Hounds in Melton Mowbray is celebrating after being awarded a prestigious Bib Gourmand in the 2021 Michelin Guide.
The Michelin Guide made their announcements on 25 January, with John’s House in Leicestershire also retaining their Michelin star. For The Stag & Hounds, the Bib Gourmand shows recognition of their high quality food whilst retaining competitive prices. The pub is one of just 16 new Bib Gourmand additions across the UK in this year’s guide.
Chef Dom Clarke and his partner, Antonia, began life at The Stag and Hounds in 2019. Dom commented after the award announcement, “We are over the moon to be awarded this tonight. It’s been a tough time to launch our business. Moving to a new area, trying to establish relationships with guests, learning where to source the right ingredients and Covid playing its part disrupting our plans. Tonight’s award is fantastic. It celebrates great quality food at great prices. Which is exactly what we want the pub to be all about. Nothing pretentious just quality.”
Not their first award, The Stag & Hounds was also named Dining Pub of the Year 2021/21 by Great Food Club. The country pub is located in Burrough on the Hill, Melton Mowbray, and focuses on quality seasonal menus and local ales. During normal times they offer a fantastic midweek lunchtime offer of 2 courses for £20 or 3 courses for £23.
During lockdown you can enjoy a weekly changing takeaway menu, which is offered on Friday and Saturday evenings, as well as Sunday lunch. Weekly items may include blade of beef, confit duck leg, black pudding crumpet, or this week (w/c 24 January) you can enjoy crab tortellini starter with slow cooked pork belly with lyonnaise potatoes.
Takeaways are available for collection from the pub and you can order by calling 01664 454 250. Menus change weekly and you can find the most up to date menu via their Instagram.
