British Pie Week 2023 falls from 6 – 12 March, so what better opportunity to run through some of our top Leicester pie picks.

Knight & Garter

Their Baked Steak & Kidney Pie is an absolute beauty. Your soft baked suet pie is filled with tender steak and kidney, and served with mashed potatoes, roasted roots, veal jus & parsley liquor. A must try.

Everards Beer Hall

There’s a beery spin to the pie at Everards. Made with shortcrust pastry and filled with steak and Tiger ale, it comes served with skin on fries or mashed potato, wilted summer greens & Tiger ale gravy.

The Windmill, Brascote

A Leicestershire pie highlight for sure, don’t miss the homemade Love Pies at The Windmill. Enjoy their weekly pie night, or grab them to take home and cook yourself. The range of fillings include BBQ Pulled Pork & Cheddar, Minted Lamb, Camembert, Potato & Spring Onion, Mushroom, Spinach & Stilton, and more. All come served with veg and your choice of fries of mashed potato.

The White Hart, Loughborough

A slice of pie = a slice of comfort. Tuesday night is Pie Night at The White Hart in the centre of Loughborough, and these beauties are some of the best around. Handmade and with changing fillings, enjoy a large slice served up with chunky chips, mushy peas and gravy.

The Bakers Arms, Blaby

Enjoy their homemade Steak & Tiger Pie or opt for something with a historical edge and choose their King Richard III Grete Pie, a beautiful example of a traditional Medieval pie. Half suet & shortcrust pastry, Leicestershire beef & chicken, dates, prunes, currants soaked in red wine, cloves, mace, cinnamon, saffron, and juniper berries, served with creamy mash, seasonal vegetables, bone marrow jus.

The Cow & Plough, Oadby

With their neighbouring farm shop and on site butchers, the food at The Cow & Plough is certainly worth driving over for. Don’t miss their classic favourite, The Billy Pie. Made with steak and their Steamin’ Billy beer, it’s served with mashed potatoes, seasonal veg and gravy.

The Globe

If you’re looking for a good pub pie in the centre of town, head to The Globe. With a changing selection of tasty fillings, they also offer gluten free pie and vegan options. All come served with rustic chips or mash, vegetables and gravy. Also, dine with them on a Thursday to grab their Pie & Pint offer. Available from 12pm – 8pm every Thursday enjoy a free drink with any pie, just choose from Tiger, Carling, Inch’s, 175ml glass of House Wine, draught soft drinks and fresh fruit juices.

Pieski

If after all of that you want to enjoy a pie at home, then make sure you check out Pieski. Based in Kirby Muxloe, these beautiful homemade pies come in various tempting flavours such as Mexican-Spiced Pulled Pork & Chorizo, Mushroom, Spinach & Stilton, and many more. They also do gluten free pies on request, with dairy free options also available. Delivery (to Leicester Forest East, Desford, Kirby Muxloe, Glenfield, Mountsorrel, Evington and more) and collection is available every Thursday, or you can find them at a variety of local events.
