Eat Out to Help Out took over the UK’s hospitality industry in August with restaurants, pubs and cafes packed out with customers enjoying a return to eating out. A number of venues have chosen to continue the scheme on their own terms as we head into September, and one of those is The Globe in the city centre.
Following the success of the scheme in August, The Globe is offering 50% off food every Monday – Wednesday throughout September. We caught up with General Manager, Layla, to find out about life at Leicester’s oldest pub.
How would you describe The Globe for anyone who hasn’t visited?
A welcoming Traditional Ale pub for the modern day, serving a great selection of food and drinks with something for everyone to enjoy. Being the oldest pub in Leicester dating back to 1720 it is a historical and cultural landmark of the city and a must see for any trip to Leicester.

Guests will receive 50% off all food Monday to Wednesday, and of course great service too.
Tell us about the food menu offering at The Globe?
We have some classic pub favourites with steak pie & mash and scampi & chips. Lighter options are available including salt and pepper squid starter and a halloumi salad. We also do a tasty selection of lunchtime baguettes and burritos plus some fabulous desserts with homemade apple crumble & custard and New York cheesecake with raspberry compote.
What is your favourite item on the menu?
Our fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce is always winner!
What’s your favourite thing about The Globe’s location in the city centre?
We are nestled in the heart of the historic Leicester Lanes and it is a great place to recover after a busy afternoon shopping. Being a stone’s throw from the Guildhall and Richard III centre we meet a lots of tourists and it’s great meeting so many new faces discovering our amazing city.
What did you miss most about The Globe over lockdown?
The hustle and bustle of town and having a good natter with all our regulars. And of course a proper draught pint.
