ONES TO WATCH

In this week’s Music Guide we’re taking a closer look at some of our top ones to watch from the local scene. Over the last 8 months we’ve featured countless local performers and Leicestershire bands through interviews and playlists, and now we’re going to go back and pick out a few of those standout acts for you to delve into a little further.

Mouth Culture

Mouth Culture describe themselves as “loud, emo inspired indie-rock, embracing DIY attitudes and chasing arena dreams” and they’re one of Leicester’s most hotly tipped bands of the moment. As music venues briefly opened their doors between lockdowns, Mouth Culture even managed to squeeze in two sold out shows at Firebug. With a raft of press over recent months, including Kerrang Radio, Rock Sound’s Breakout feature and making it onto Apple Music’s New Rock and Breaking Rock playlists, this is a good time to start paying more attention to these guys. Listen on Spotify.

Alice Kübe

Stripped back singer Alice Kübe mixes elements of RnB, acoustic soul and pop into her music. A big favourite with local BBC Introducing and she was also picked as a top 20 finalist by Capital Xtra and I Saw It First for their Top 20 UK Female Rising Artists. Check out Alice’s YouTube channel for same fantastic covers and Spotify for original material. There’s also a brand new Christmas single with Morgan Munroe that’s out at the end of this month.

AVNT GARDS

avnt gards

Leicestershire 4-piece AVNT GARDS have been together since 2018, performing across the Midlands and picking up plenty of support from BBC Introducing and more. Lockdown came just as the post-britpop band had finished 3 days in the studio, so they’ve been using this time to release new material and plan what’s next. The indie/alternative band released These Things earlier in the year and are ones to watch for next year.  Listen on Spotify.

Siobhan Mazzei

No stranger to the local scene Siobhan Mazzei has been a regular on our Lockdown Leicester playlists over recent months. The singer songwriter has a way with words and crafts spellbinding tracks with a crossover of grunge and folk. 2020 has brought new music in the form of her track, Escape, and there’s a Christmas single on the horizon too. Listen on Spotify.
