The secret’s in the smoke. But Oakey Smokey shouldn’t be a secret for much longer.

The new Stoneygate smokehouse has been a hit since opening, with their in house smoked meats, burgers, tacos, seafood and more.

Whilst plans to expand the menu to offer breakfast and lunch are in the pipeline, for now the main focus is their evening menu, which is available Tuesday – Sunday. Situated in the former Allandale Bar (or Lounge Bar depending on your age), Oakey Smokey has been launched by 3 local businessmen and friends. Passionate about smoked foods, the menu is a culmination of their own journey of taste discovery.

The starters offer a flavour of what’s to come, with a highlight being their Smoked Brisket Arancini and Chipotle Hummus, which also comes topped with pulled brisket.

Moving to the main courses, the main focus falls on their smoked meats, of course. But that isn’t all they offer. Whilst their 16 hour smoked sliced brisket, Burnt Ends and Dino Beef Rib may be the main talking points on arrival, don’t miss checking out their others mains, such as burgers and dogs, Roasted Aubergine, Birria Tacos and Jumbo Prawns.

We opted to try both the Dino Beef Rib and the Jumbo Prawns. The Dino Beef Rib is smoked for 12 hours and comes served on the bone with your choice of two regular sides and choice of dip. Incredibly tender the beef was falling off the bone and had a wonderful smokey taste coupled with the house smokey BBQ sauce. A large portion, we agreed this was a huge hit and certainly something we’d be returning for. If the brisket and other smoked meats are to be judged by this, then we’d certainly recommend ordering a few dishes to share as a group.

To get an all round idea of the dishes available we also ordered the Jumbo Prawns. Not to be outdone by the large meat portions, the prawns certainly don’t disappoint in either size of flavour. With a garlic glaze the massive jumbo prawns are served with fries and the choice to add sides including Mac & cheese or upgrade to Chipotle Cheese Fries or Parmesan & Truffle Fries.

It’s clear that a lot of consideration has been put into Oakey Smokey, from both a menu and venue perspective. The restaurant is spacious and bright, with a contemporary and welcoming feel. Offering something different to the other restaurants in the Stoneygate and Clarendon Park area, I’m excited to see the venue develop further.

Whilst the restaurant doesn’t serve alcohol, you are only a few steps over the road from one of our favourites, The Real Ale Classroom. You can stop by few a few drinks before or after, or you can even enjoy your food to go and take it over the road to enjoy with a drink.

A nice setting for both friends and families, Oakey Smokey is a very welcome addition to Stoneygate.
