How do you fancy a chance to explore Leicester, rack up those daily steps and make some new friends along the way? On Saturday 25 March, Andy is undertaking the Leicester Landmarks Walk in aid of LAMP and you can join him.

The walk will begin at Braunstone Park for the Park Run before exploring Everards Meadows, the city sports stadiums and more, before finishing with a music night at The Big Difference. We caught up with Andy to find out more about the walk.

What inspired your Landmarks or Leicester walk?

Leicester and all it has to offer. It is phenomenal and a wonderfully diverse city. Great sport, fantastic theatre, a state of the art independent cinema, great parks and open spaces, brilliant museum , shopping, superb pubs and restaurants.

What made you choose to support Lamp as your chosen charity?

I wanted to support a local charity that supports mental health. LAMP does great work and I wanted to highlight what they do. Mental health is seriously underfunded and we are encouraged to talk , but sometimes we have nobody to talk to. LAMP can offer that extra help locally.

What is your favourite Leicester landmark?

Great Central Way is a favourite, but it’s not a landmark. I’d say probably St Mary de Castro church, Jewry wall and Castle Gardens. I love historic Leicester.

Can people come and join you on the walk?

It would be great to be joined by people on the way. The more the merrier. If anybody is doing the Braunstone Park run it would be great for them to say hello. It’s my first park run, so a little nervous about that bit .

You’ve been an active member of the Cool As Leicester Social Club since it launched, how would you describe it to anyone who hasn’t got involved yet?

Cool As Leicester social group has been fantastic for me . I have met like minded people who enjoy going out and socialising. The events I have been to have been lovely. It’s not easy to make new friends but this group facilitates it in many ways . I have met some great people.

Do you have plans for future walks?

I’d love to do the 3 Peaks. Mick Wright a fellow member of the Social group is doing Snowdon at night in July for CALM campaign against living miserably . That is another great cause and a challenge I’d enjoy.
