A historic micropub site close to De Montfort University is set to re-open under new ownership.

The Castle Inn was previously owned and operated by De Montfort University, but the team at Ben Pimlico Pubs has now submitted a premises license application to transform the site.

Housed in historic cottages in Leicester’s oldest area, The Newarke, the proposed site of The Castle will be spread across two of the cottages. The pub site will be reopened and they have also purchased the cottage next door to allow them to create a new outdoor seating area, as well as a coffee shop and deli. They will also be opening the upstairs to increase seating capacity.

The pub company has confirmed that they are committed to history & keeping this as a traditional micropub with candlelight, cast iron & copper.

Ben Pimlico currently also run the popular White Hart pub in Loughborough.

Subject to the license being granted The Castle is due to open in June with the deli, Hand & Bowl, to follow later in the year.
