This week’s Leicestershire beer garden tour takes us over to the lovely village of Great Bowden and to The Red Lion.
Great Bowden is a beautiful village nestled between the Langtons and Market Harborough, about 1 mile from Market Harborough train station. The Red Lion is at the heart of the village, just around the corner from the village green and has undergone a significant garden refurb. The pub is currently trading solely outdoors as the interior is still mid-refurb but we hear there are very exciting things to come when they fully reopen.
The garden features a shipping container that has been transformed into an outdoor bar and kitchen and is a lovely feature as you walk in. A mix of decking and pebbled centre create a modern look and there’s a covered quadrant space with individual booth spaces, each with individual heaters.
And then there’s the food. The menu of small plates and sliders is fabulous and features options including a beautiful burrata, harissa spiced pulled lamb shoulder flatbread, slow cooked crispy pork belly and more. It’s also a perfect Sunday destination with their roasted Aubrey Allen rump of beef served pink or lemon & thyme roasted chicken, making for a wonderful Sunday lunch. As for the desserts, the picture of the stem ginger sticky toffee pudding really speaks for itself.
Whether you’re going for cocktails and light bites or a dinner out, it’s a great choice. Add it to your list.
The Red Lion is open for garden bookings 7 days a week and serves food from 12pm – 3pm and 5pm – 9pm Monday – Saturday, plus Sunday lunch from 12pm – 5pm. They also serve hot breakfast from 9am – 11am on Saturday and Sunday.
