A packed autumn lineup awaits at Loughborough Town Hall, stacked full of big names, and acts ready to tickle your funny bone, give you goosebumps, and even send a chill down your spine!
Audiences can look forward to laughs with Jenny Eclair and Rosie Jones, live music from Paul Young and Sinfonia Viva, spooky goings on from The Phantom of the Opera, and a fascinating evening with the ever-entertaining Rev Richard Coles and sporting hero Sir Geoff Hurst.
Yes, it looks like autumn 2023 is Loughborough Town Hall’s most exciting line-up yet, especially for comedy-goers. Jenny Éclair’s brand-new tour Sixty Plus! (FFS!) sees ‘The Face of Vagisan’ confront a new decade of decrepitude as she hits 60 (although still a year younger than Madonna). Jenny lands in Loughborough on 29 September.
TV talent Rosie Jones (7 November) is on her UK tour, and boy, is she EXCITED! The Triple Threat show ponders whether Rosie is a national treasure or something else entirely.
If that wasn’t enough to have you rolling in the aisles, maybe Dave Gorman – PowerPoint to the People is more your speed? The ‘high priest of the comedy PowerPoint’ is touring his hit show once again, coming to Loughborough 1 November. Meanwhile, more quirky comedy nights can be found with drag queen extraordinaire Baga Chipz (25 October), and the crazy stories and quirky observations of Mark Steel (16 September) round out a comedy line-up that is sure to pack out your calendar.
As the nights draw in, something spooky is stalking the corridors of Loughborough’s Town Hall with not one but four demonic dramas to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
Traditional storytelling is at the forefront of both Night Terrors (26 October), a spine-tingling evening of three tales of the supernatural from E.F. Benson’s brilliant collection of ghost stories, and it wouldn’t be Christmas without Charles Dickens presents A Christmas Carol (19 December).
Meanwhile, audiences can ask themselves, Do You Believe in Ghosts? (27 September) at this special performance with ‘paranormal experts’. Hear their fascinating spooky stories at a shocking night at the theatre where not everything is as it seems… Are you brave enough? Dare you!
There’s also plenty for the musical fans as well, who will be treated to local performances of Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat (23-27 January) and Me & My Girl (3-7 October).
Of course, Loughborough Town Hall always looks to offer a great programme of live music too.
Paul Young – Behind the Lens is in town on 28 September, celebrating the 40thanniversary of hitting the big time with his album, No Parlez. Enjoy iconic hits live, such as Wherever I Lay My Hat (That’s My Home), The Secret of Association, and Every Time you Go Away. More than just a concert, Paul is launching his extraordinary new song and memoir, Behind the Lens. Don’t miss out on this treat!
For those wanting to be moved this autumn, Sinfonia Viva (20 September) brings classical melodies and soaring strings to the Town Hall stage – experience the sheer scale of the live sound of the orchestra of the East Midlands and feel the power of music stand your hairs on end.
For those needing a blast of nostalgia, a host of incredible tribute bands are tramping the Loughborough Town Hall boards too this year, with Whitney – Queen of the Night (14 September), Talon – The Best of The Eagles (8 October), The Chicago Blues Brothers (28 October) and FastLove – A Tribute to George Michael (2 November) to name but a few!
Those looking for something a little more factual can also scratch that celebrity itch, as Loughborough Town Hall’s selection of famous names is not to be sniffed at!
Reverend Richard Coles is the only British vicar to have had a number-one hit single and appear as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing – not a claim that is likely to be matched any time soon! See his Borderline National Trinket tour on 3 November.
