For our latest micropub adventure we ventured out to the south west of Leicestershire to check out Hinckley’s two micropub offerings – first up was The Pestle & Mortar (The town’s other micropub, The Elbow Room, will be reviewed soon).

Formerly a chemist, this quirky little venue now serves different and more enjoyable forms of medicine – in this case up to 9 cask ales, a selection of keg beers, ciders & perrys, spirits, wines and soft drinks. Snacks available include crisps, pork scratchings and nuts.

On the visit a small selection of newspapers were available for punters to read whilst enjoying their pints. If you are with friends then you can even treat yourselves to a game of table football.

The Pestle & Mortar won the accolade of East Midlands Cider Pub of the Year 2016 – a fantastic achievement for a micropub that has only been open for just over 1 year. Even though not a cider fan myself it’s fantastic to see a micropub such as this being recognised for their ciders and as an ale fan we can certainly recommend this micropub purely for the good ale that it serves as well.

So if you are in Hinckley and looking for somewhere to enjoy great ale and cider then make sure that The Pestle & Mortar is included as one of your pub stops.
