Have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes in Leicester’s Designer-Maker community? Until 29 September LCB Design Season is turning its focus to celebrate the work of this successful community from across the city and county. As well as the Tacit exhibition there will also be a chance to Meet The Makers on Thursday 27 September.

Tacit is an exhibition showcase of some of the best, most surprising and high quality Designer-Makers from our region – one of our true and genuine strengths. High quality and diverse in nature, the exhibition includes work in paper, ceramics, fabrics, textiles and glass, showcasing the work of a range of businesses across the region, who sell nationally and internationally yet are based right here on our doorstep.

On Thursday 27 September LCB Depot will remain open until 10pm for Meet the Maker, when you’re invited to come down and meet the talent behind the creations. There will also be a B2B networking event with the exhibiting artists from 4pm – 6pm. In addition, the exhibition is open on Saturday 29th September from midday – 10pm, when you can also enjoy the Leicester Beer Convention in Grays Coffee Shop as part of Leicester Beer Week.

The exhibition has been led and curated in partnership with Ruth Singer of Made in Leicestershire and Jo Keogh of ‘The Clay Room’, both of whom are based at LCB’s design hub, Makers Yard, and LCB Depot.

Jo commented, “For us, Tacit is an opportunity to really showcase the range of talent that is housed within our community in Leicester. So often people are unaware of the wonderful work that is being done on their doorstep and this is a chance for the rest of the industry and the public to celebrate the city’s creative workforce.”

Exhibiting artist and Made in Leicestershire Consultant for Creative Leicestershire, Ruth Singer, added, “Do you ever wonder where artists and makers get their ideas from? What the person behind the craft is really like? What kind of mind creates such extraordinary work? This is the event for you – meet those makers, hear about their work and discover extraordinary stories from their studios. Tacit showcases the unusual, innovative practice taking place in Leicestershire’s studios and workshops from glassblowing to fold-formed metal to delicate embroidery to concrete set with textile. This exhibition isn’t what you might expect from craft, so come and have your eyes opened and discover amazing new things.”

James Burkmar, LCB Depot Workspace Manager, added, “Tacit is such a brilliant showcase for the design community in the city. I’d encourage everyone to come down and view the exhibition and especially to join us for Meet The Maker, where there’ll be a chance to discuss the story behind the creations with the designers themselves.

Tacit runs at LCB Depot from 17th – 29th September. Meet The Maker takes place on Thursday 27th September from 4pm – 10pm (4pm – 6pm is B2B networking, and 6pm – 10pm open to the public).
