How would you describe Space to Breathe Collective for anyone who isn’t familiar?

The Space To Breathe Collective is a not for profit yoga studio in the centre of Leicester, we are located just outside St Martin’s Square in a beautiful airy and light building. You can choose from 18 classes a week to suit all abilities, we strongly believe ‘all bodies are yoga bodies’ We are aiming to become the first yoga cooperative in the UK. We are a welcoming bunch of people and everyone is welcome.

What’s the background to the business before you opened in Leicester city centre?

The Space To Breathe Collective started in July 2019 and we were located in a smaller space near New Walk. During lockdown we continued with regular online classes which were all donation based and reached out to a much wider group of people in Leicester and beyond. Our mission has always been above bringing yoga to a wider range of people and not fo make profit.

What’s your favourite thing about your location in the city?

It has to be the space itself. We have floor to ceiling windows on two sides of the building which makes the light within the space incredible. We have retained the original floor boards and we have designed shutters that open and close to let in air. The attention to detail is great and it’s a pleasure to practice yoga in the space. St Martin’s is a beautiful part of Leicester and brilliant that you can go for a coffee or grab lunch/dinner straight after a yoga class.

Would should people expect from sessions at Space to Breathe Collective?

Firstly, yoga is not about what it looks like, all bodies are yoga bodies. Our classes are accessible, non judgemental, welcoming and hopefully, real. So if you have been thinking about starting yoga and think it’s not for you, or you think it’s for women, or you are not flexible enough… give us a go… seriously it could be the start of an amazing journey. We have 18 classes a week to suit everyone.

As a not for profit organisation, what is most important to you in running the Collective?

Because we have chosen to not run The Collective as a profit making organisation it means we can charge students a lot less for classes, that is very important to us when thinking about making yoga more accessible. Yoga shouldn’t just be for fair skinned, flexible, middle class women. Whatever is happening in your life, yoga can help you achieve calmness, connection, physical movements and being in the moment. That is very powerful.

You offer unlimited yoga for £50/month, what other class options are available?

We also offer 10 class pass card for £65, which makes each class just £6.50 or 5 class pass card for £35 which makes each class just £7. Finally, if you just want to try us out then were offer pay as you go for £8. You need to book classes online.
