[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]This week’s Leicestershire beer garden tour brings us back to the city centre and one of our absolute favourites, King Richard III.

Tucked away on Highcross Street the KRIII re-opened post lockdown under new ownership and also has a brilliant new food offering with The Pickled Mushroom taking over the kitchen.

The garden space may be small but it’s perfectly formed. High stools and benches lead you through the side courtyard space towards the back area where there are more sit down tables. That back area is also a proper little sun trap, perfect for summer after work drinks.

The King Richard III is a lovely pub and the inside is a great mix of traditional pub with contemporary touches (mainly thanks to two recent refurbs from previous owners). If you visit between Thursday – Sunday you’ll be able to settle in and enjoy a meal from The Pickled Mushroom, who took over the kitchen space in April.

Phil is a brilliant chef and has created a menu that’s got everything from the finest Philli Cheesesteak burger to Moules Frites. Make sure you order the fried pickles and mushrooms as a starter, they’re absolutely beaut. There have recently been a number of lighter summer dishes added to the menu, in the form of wraps and salads, but the epic burgers are staying on there too. It’s also worth noting that all dishes can be made meat free and gluten free, just ask for details before you order.

The pub has changed hands a few times over recent years but it really is one of our favourite spots in town. You can book a table for dining at The Pickled Mushroom by DMing them on Instagram or calling the pub on 0116 296 1527.

Bonus points for being dog friendly too.

King Richard III is located at 70 Highcross Street, LE1 4NN.
