If you haven’t yet heard of Spur Steak & Grill then you are missing out. We first saw it pop up a few weeks ago and have been meaning to go along and try it, so last week we did just that!

The restaurant is very modern inside and the waiting staff are hugely welcoming! You could tell straight away that it’s a perfect setting for groups of friends and families to come to.

I’m indecisive with menus at the best of times but faced with steak, chicken, fajitas, burgers, ribs etc, it was a difficult choice! Now, to make the evening even more tempting it turns out that Thursday is their unlimited ribs and wings night. Yes, you heard right, unlimited!

After browsing the menu I went for the rib eye steak, which comes with a choice of 2 sides. I opted for fries and onion rings. My dining partner went for the ribs, unlimited ribs, yes unlimited, incase you didn’t read that properly the first time.

Prices are reasonable for the menu choices, with the rib eye steak and sides setting you back £17.45 and the full rack of ribs costing the same.  However rest assured there are many items on the menu costing less and also a great range of midweek offers for customers too!

So, what was the food like? First test – was the steak cooked right? I always go for medium rare and I can happily confirm it was cooked to perfection. In fact, it was the best steak I have had in some time. I opted for a mushroom sauce to top it and this came with thick chunks of mushroom in it and complemented the steak perfectly.

The ribs came out in a bbq glaze (also available with a Jack Daniels glaze) with onion rings and coleslaw. Special mention here for the onion rings, no thick cut big rings, but thin onion in a tasty light batter. A perfect side dish! As my dining partner finished the ribs (devoured them in a super fast fashion!) the waiter was straight back over to ask if they’d like more (obviously that was a yes!). Although they did stop themselves after 2 racks! The people on the next table didn’t though so don’t feel that you have to be shy!

As much as we were stuffed to the brim it seemed only right to test the amazing sounding array of desserts, which includes caramel apple crumble pie and sticky toffee pudding cheesecake to name just 2. I was too full for anything heavy so chose the ice cream sundae with Cadbury’s fudge pieces and my dining partner opted for banoffee waffle. Well, we had nothing but good words for the desserts. Simple but great flavours and excellent portion sizes. They’re not cheap puddings, with each costing around £5 but definitely worth it for ending the meal on a high.

All in all we had an excellent evening at Spur and will definitely be returning.  It’s the kind of venue that you could go with a group and rest assured that everyone will find something to please them on the menu. However remember to book ahead if going on the weekend.

Service
At Cool As Leicester we always like to give a special extra review to the staff at the restaurants we visit and at Spur we were served by a guy called Keegan who was an asset to the team. He was attentive and friendly but without being too pushy or overbearing, the perfect combination.

The full menu at Spur can be found HERE.
Offers available during the week include:
Monday – 2 for 1 combo night
Tuesday – 2 for 1 schnitzel night
Wednesday – 2 for 1 burger night
Thursday – unlimited ribs & wings

The restaurant are also doing their bit with their new special Moroccan Lamb Broth. Available until the end of March, the dish includes a bowl of delicious lamb broth with chickpeas and vegetables, a sizzling lamb kebab and sliced fresh pitta bread. It’s on the menu at £8.95 and the restaurant promises to donate 20% of the profits from all sales to the Trussell Trust’s Help Crack UK Hunger campaign, which will help foodbanks give emergency food to people in crisis.
