Cool As favourite Frank Turner is heading back out on tour this month and he’s joined by some incredible support acts, as American rock band Jimmy Eat World and Leicester’s own Grace Petrie join him on the road for the Be More Kind arena tour. We’ve got 3 pairs of tickets to give away for you to see them at London’s Alexandra Palace on Sunday 3 February.

Following the release of Be More Kind last year, Frank heads out on his latest arena tour and we couldn’t be more chuffed to see Leicester’s favourite folk singer, Grace Petrie, join him for the UK dates, with the tour offering some of her biggest shows to date. If that’s not enough then Jimmy Eat World, who released some of our favourite tracks of the early noughties, will also be with them.

2018 was a busy year, even by Frank Turner’s standards. Following the release of his seventh studio album, he kicked off the Be More Kind World Tour playing to over 200,000 people across the UK, the USA, Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and covering 120 dates.

Speaking of his Be More Kind album, Turner commented, “I wanted to try and get out of my comfort zone and do something different.” The title was inspired by a Clive James poem called Leçons Des Ténèbres: “I should have been more kind. It is my fate. To find this out, but find it out too late.” “It devastated me the first time I read it,” he says. “A lot of older, wiser people tend to say things like that, that the things that come out in the wash at the end of a human life are the way you treated the people around you. In the modern world, that’s a lesson that all of us, myself included could do to learn.”

His latest single, Brave Face, is out now and the lyric video can be seen below.
Brave Face took the most work of any on the record. We cut it three separate times over the course of recording. In the end, the final arrangement was heavily influenced by being on the road with Jason Isbell (A Star Is Born) and hearing him play his latest material from Nashville Sound. I also reworked the lyrics a few times; I was always happy with the central metaphor, but the details needed tweaking. I like the idea of facing down the end of the world with your significant other, it’s a sort of Thelma-and-Louise image, in a way.

Frank isn’t the only one who had a busy 2018 as Grace Petrie also released her new album, Queer As Folk, which is available to purchase or stream from her website. The album was crowdfunded by Grace’s fans and didn’t disappoint. “Folk music should be hugely proud of her” – Morning Star. You can view the video to Black Tie below.
