You might have a spotted a few new additions in town this week as Rocket Round Leicester launches 40 individually hand painted rockets around the city.
Yes, the Rocket Round Leicester art trail is organised by local charity LOROS Hospice and runs for 10 incredible weeks from Monday 19th July – Sunday 26th September.
If you’re out spotting the rockets this summer then be sure to keep a special eye out for the BID Leicester sponsored rocket, Leicstarry Night. This rocket design has been inspired by the Van Gogh Expo that’s currently on in All Saints Church and there are special prizes up for grabs when you visit.
If you download the Rocket Round Leicester app and enter the code at the Leicstarry Night rocket (you’ll find it by the Clock Tower) you can enter a prize draw to win family tickets to Van Gogh Expo and a £50 Leicester Gift Card.
Leicsstarry night was painted by local artist Anna Shutt, who was inspired by the work of Vincent Van Gogh. You can find out more about Van Gogh at the Expo, which includes 360 projections and virtual reality experiences so the whole family can step inside his most famous paintings.
Trail-goers can also pick up a Trail Map from the Rocket Round Leicester Trail Hub Shop in Highcross shopping centre (upper mall near Jo Malone) to discover all of the sculpture locations and complete the trail. The official app can be from the Google Play and App store and as well as BID Leicester’s rocket, there are others to ‘unlock’ too. Enter rocket codes from the sculptures for exciting rewards, including giveaways, competitions for family-fun adventures, and discounts for local activities.
Rocket Round Leicester is LOROS’ flagship fundraising event of the year, and the rockets really are a sight to behold, standing at over 8ft in height.
Alongside exploring the trail, visitors can experience 10 different themed weeks; from music, space, challenge and wellness to name a few. With each unique week, LOROS have organised themed events for everybody to enjoy this summer holidays.
The city-wide rocket trail will contribute towards delivering care services to the hospice’s patients and their families’ at the most difficult time of their lives. The much-loved local charity largely relies on the generosity of the community to fund the care provided.
The Rocket Round Leicester app costs £1.99, with a percentage of the proceeds contributing towards patient care at LOROS Hospice.
