From selling out solo gigs, supporting Kasabian and now recording a famous Leicester City anthem, things certainly seem to be happening for Leicester’s Jersey Budd. He’s just released his version of When You’re Smiling for LCFC and we caught up with him to find out how things were going…
As a Leicester City fan what did it mean to be asked to record the song?
Ive been following Leicester since i was a little kid and when the club approached me to do the song i thought it was a wind up. Thankfully it wasnt! But its just incredible and such an honour and when i hear it blasting out around the ground before games its an amazing feeling
How is work going on the new album?
Its great. Ive written about 30 songs which i didnt do for Wonderlands and it gives me more options. There are a few tracks that are gonna make people stand up and listen. Its all about finding the right producer (which I think we’ve got finally) and then it will all roll into place. I cant wait to start playing the new songs at the gigs and gauge the fans reactions. I start recording at the end of October.
For people who aren’t familiar with you how would you describe your sound?
Its a mixture of all my musical tastes and influences really. Its rock and roll with big melodies choruses and a lot of soul.
If you could collaborate with any artist past or present who would it be?
Id love to collaborate with Noel Gallagher but there are a load of others id love like John Lennon or David Bowie.
Growing up in Leicester what was the best gig you saw in the city?
I’d have to say the Kasabian gig at De Monfort Hall 2009. I supported them for all 3 three nights and they were electric.
You’ve achieved some great things already in your career, what has been the highlight so far?
Id have to say supporting Kasabian at the Royal Albert Hall the venue was just immense. But there was a gig with Amy Macdonald in Berlin. It was infront of about 7000 people in summer and one of the biggest nights musically and me and my band celebrated like we had won the Premier League.
What do you think of City’s chances of promotion this season?
I think we have every chance of going up. Beckford will be a great signing and with Sven pulling the strings i think well grab 2nd spot.
Who would be your dream Leicester City XI?
Peter Schmeichel, Cafu, John Terry, Steve Walsh, Roberto Carlos, Lionel Messi, Roy Keane, Gazza, Maradonna, Pele, ME
What can we expect from Jersey Budd in the next 12 months?
Im on tour in November then into the studio to record the 2nd album which will be out early next year then crack on with writing album 3.
