PREVIEW: SoundHive Social End of Year Party
SoundHive Social launched earlier this year and has gone on to achieve exactly what it set out to – celebrate truly amazing talent, whilst reaching people who may otherwise not have been going to shows. Combatting loneliness and bringing new people to the music scene in Leicester is at the core of what SoundHive is about.
Through playing the music at a lower level and encouraging conversation, the gigs have seen a new crowd of attendees begin to form. Recent feedback includes, “Thank you Chris for daring to reinvent the concept of the small gig to make them accessible and person centric. I’ve been to two so far and found them very refreshing”
SoundHive Social is back on Friday 22 December for a Christmas and End of Year special.
As expected, the line-up continues to shine a spotlight on all that is great about the local scene. First up, JJ Lovegrove who is an exceptional artist. Organiser Chris commented, “JJ left people in tears last time she played for us, so what better way to celebrate Christmas than with more tears…” In fact, HMV Derby even has her latest release as their album of the year.
SoundHive will be filming and recording JJ’s performance on the night, which is going to be mixed the next day and released on Christmas Eve! Read more here.
Also performing on the night will be Steve Parker, who last played SoundHive back in July. “Last time Steve played he had us all in complete silence. As it should be for this local folk legend.”
Next up is Nour, a wonderful songwriter with such a mellow, beautiful vibe. Stunningly good.
Aaron Brooks is a new discovery for the SoundHive team, but when his cover of Sharon Van Etten’s song gets her seal of approval, he’s more than good enough to join in! A very interesting young talent.
Finally, Becky is another new discovery but one that instantly became a hit on first hearing her songs. Her lyrics are unique, her songs are catchy and that voice is brilliant too.
SoundHive Social takes places on Friday 22 December at Duffy’s Bar. There will be a DJ on after the performances, with entertainment through until 2am. Entry is free. For more information visit the Facebook event page.
