INTERVIEW: OHANA

Leicester’s alternative indie grunge-sters, OHANA, will be back performing live when they take to the stage at The Soundhouse on Friday 9 July. It’s been a long wait to get back to live shows for the band and we caught up with Jack to find out all about what they’re up to.

Ohana band leicester

How has life been for OHANA since early 2020?

Life in OHANA has been slow since early 2020. A lot of things we were working on had to be put on hold. However now everywhere has begun to open up and hopefully stays open we can get the ball rolling again and continue to grow.

On a scale of 1-10 how much are you looking forward to your first live show back?

If 10 is the best then we are at scale 10,000,000. We can’t hold in the excitement much longer! It’s what we love to do.

What did you miss most about the band during lockdown?

Believe it or not it was the ability to be with each other. We are all so alike and into the same hobbies and activities, which works well because it means we spend more time together doing things we love and that just helps our connection and creative process.

Ohana band leicester

How would you describe your sound for anyone who isn’t familiar with OHANA?

I would say we are the love child from Queens Of The Stone Age, Nirvana and Foo Fighters. We are classed as “Alternative Indie Grunge”.

Who would be listed in your “For fans of” section?

Each one of us takes inspiration from a wide variety of artists which shows in our music. Some of the bands we find common ground on and would be listed in our “For fans of” section would definitely be VANT, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Queens Of The Stone Age, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Fugazi and Arctic Monkeys.

What are you most looking forward to with lockdown lifting?

Most definitely the shows! Playing shows, festivals and being in the recording studio is what we are most looking forward to. It’s been so long we just want to get out there and push it more than ever!

If you could pick one artist and one venue for your next gig who and where would it be?

Right okay if we are keeping it local then… Mouth Culture at O2

If it’s not local then Y!KES at Bodega.
