INTERVIEW: FINN MURPHY
Finn is one half of Murphy’s Law, ripping up dance floors and bringing some of the best parties to Leicester. This weekend sees the next instalment of their popular Full House events, brining Europe’s top House & Techno acts to cool locations across Leicester. We chatted to Finn to find out more about it.
How would you describe Full House to anyone who is new to it?
Full House is one of Leicester’s most infamous House & Techno parties. Since establishing in 2017, we have thrown some amazing parties across the city, bringing artists from all corners of the globe to Leicester in order to showcase their sound, to our loyal group of ravers.
Full House is ran by the duo Murphy’s Law (brothers Sonny & Finn Murphy), who have grown up in Leicester but now are playing parties across Europe & are signing music to some of the industry’s leading labels.
What makes your events unique?
Our party is unique because we’ve always focused on getting the three main elements as good as they can possibly be, with that being that the music, the vibe & the decor.
We have always kept the amount of artists on our line ups to a minimum, in order to give them longer set times to musically express themselves. This has always proven to be well received by our headliners, who always say they’d love to return and play for us again!
Our full-venue transformations create an experience that can’t be replicated in the city, making the time and effort we spend on this leading up to events very worth it, due to our crowds always embracing the themes that we set for each party.
What do you think makes the Leicester music and events scene special?
We think there’s a great sense of community amongst the ravers, and while Leicester doesn’t have the same quantity of events that some bigger cities may have on offer, when a worthwhile one comes to town everybody gets stuck in!
It also makes us very proud to see lots of artists from all different genres, flying the blue flag for Leicester in the music world at the moment.
Who are some of your favourite acts locally?
In the world of House & Techno, our residents are as good as they come which is why they’ve been with us from the start, and we’ve never had to look elsewhere. Rivmah & Jes with one S are artists that everybody should keep their eye on.
We would also like to throw a shout out to some local artists, who’s music we’re loving, so big up Nile Barrow aka Ho:Fu, Flat White Chris/Flat White Records, & Chris Hatch for his amazing vinyl sets/new night at the Clarendon called Wax On Wax Off.
Tell us about some of the top DJs you’ve worked with on the events?
We have been lucky enough to have worked with some amazing artists over the past 5 years. We’ve brought Fuse London residents, Archie Hamilton & Rossko, to the city with both leaving lasting impressions on those who attended the events. Our last resident, the incredible young talent that is Jaden Thompson, has recently received a barrage of support from BBC Radio 1, and some of the worlds biggest DJs.
We have also had some amazing acts such as Max Chapman, Mason Collective, Leftwing:Kody, George Smeddles & many more come and play for us, over the past few years.
How do you choose the venues for Full House?
We like to choose spaces that others don’t. This way our party is always unique, and as long as we see potential in a space then we’re always confident that we can transform it into something magical.
If you had to sum up Full House in 3 words what would you say?
The ultimate escape
Away from your work with Full House you run Shakup Records, what’s your favourite thing about having the shop?
Countless inspiration for producing music, with lots of this making it to the Full House dancefloor during our Murphy’s Law sets.
Where can people find out more and buy tickets for Full House?
Make sure to follow us on Facebook & Instagram (@fullhouseleicester), where you can find the ticket link in our bio for our next event which is this Saturday (11th September) in the open air courtyard space at R bar on Granby Street, running from 14:00-22:00. The event is a trippy hippy themed day party, with the headliner Rossko flying in from Berlin for the show!
