INTERVIEW: THE CASK BAH

The Cask Bah over in Loughborough combines the intimacy of a micro-pub with the energy of regular live music. Since re-opening they’ve managed to flip their events around to still cater for their music fans by showing live music on the big screen. We caught up with the team to find out more.

Tell us a little about The Cask Bah for anyone who hasn’t visited?

The Cask Bah is a unique music micro pub specialising in live music ( obviously not currently) whose main goal is to deliver first class hospitality providing the finest ales/rocktails/ coffee/spirits / snacks and of course entertainment. We have been labelled as the people’s bar which we are very proud of.

How have the last few months been for you over lockdown?

The lockdown has been tough having had to limit our capacity to 15 from 55 and lose our USP of delivery quality live music. We have however invested in a big screen and projector to show ‘virtual festivals’ and video footage. We also intend to us this to screen our livestream ‘virtual open mic’ which we built up over the lockdown period, creating a very strong and loyal community of ‘Working Cask Heroes’ who inspired us to carry it on until live music can resume.

How have you managed the safe re-opening of the venue?

Our clientele are our main focus at the moment and we have all the necessary facilities to operate efficiently and safely with professional screens in place at the bar and all seating.

You’ve got some great events planned in including some great music shows on the big screen, can you tell us a little more about what’s coming up?

We have some great events planned in including some music shows on the big screen which is usually voted for and researched via our customers so that it suits our ‘rock n roll profile’.  This week we have Tool/a perfect circle on Thursday, an 80s night Friday, Paul Weller and the Jam Saturday and Rock n Roll Legends on Sunday

What music have you been listening to over lockdown?

Over the last few months of lockdown we have mainly been listening to our open mic submissions and other original artists on line.

Who are some of your favourite local acts?

Our favourite local acts are anyone who is flying the flag for live music, though we have had a very broad reach during lockdown with people tuning in from Malta, Ireland, Thailand… and of course our southern friends ‘Broadway Clash’. Locally though , our public love Paul Tabor, Izzy and Dan, James Martin, Andy Gurski of Zone Eleven /Aspect studios, The Universals , AVolcano, Heart of Oak, Amanda David, This Silver Field to name but a few

What’s your favourite thing about running the venue?

Our favourite thing about running the venue is that it’s not a chore, it’s a delight… a way of life… to quote Mark Twain “Find a job you love and you’ll never have to work again’ … he was referring to ‘The Cask Bah’ for sure.

The Cask Bah is located at 39b Market Street, Loughborough. To keep up to date with them you can follow them on Facebook
