What does a holiday mean to you? Relaxing, switching off, getting away to peaceful surroundings, getting out and having fun? All of the above? Well sometimes you don’t need to get on a plane for all of those things, sometimes they’re right on your doorstep. That’s what we discovered when we went to visit Sherwood Hideaway, which is nestled within, you guessed it, Sherwood Forest.

Sherwood Hideaway houses a collection of luxury lodges and log cabins, lavishly furnished and with everything you need to relax and unwind. Most even come with a hot tub to enjoy underneath the stars. The cabins are located within the Thoresby Hall Estate and take just over an hour to reach from Leicester. sherwood hideaway

Now log cabins are not a new thing, but the level of luxury and detail is what sets these apart. From the high spec kitchen to the leather sofas, plasma TVs and four poster beds, you won’t be disappointed. They come in 1, 2 or 3 bed options so there’s something for all budgets and to suit whether you want a romantic night away or a family break.

What’s even better is that a lot of the cabins are pet friendly too so you can take your dogs along with you. Hooray for us and our little Cool As pups. Whilst not all of the cabins can accept dogs (some have just been brand newly refurbished and we all know even the best behaved dogs could soon put an end to that), the ones that are classed as dog friendly are still as luxurious as you’d expect from their top range (see above photo of our lodge). The furry ones are definitely made to feel part of the holiday too as clean doggy towels and a bag of treats await you on arrival at the cabin (alongside wine and chocolate for the humans of course).

Being located within the Thoresby Hall Estate there are plenty of woodland walks to get you out and about during the daytime.  Whether you’re out for a stroll with the dogs or want to go on a booked “Woodland Hawk Walk”, it’s certainly a chance to escape from the humdrum of everyday life. For keen photographers Sherwood Hideaway have also teamed up with Go Active to offer special woodland birds of prey photography walks. As you leave the front door of your lodge you’ll see the Woodland Walks sign posted and then as you head into the forest just try to remember which turnings you took! It’s great fun for adults and kids alike.

Setting Sherwood Hideaway apart from many other country lodge sites is its surroundings. This isn’t based on a site with activities, restaurants and play zones (in fact we got very lost trying to find the entrance and managed to get locked inside somewhere else in Thoresby Hall Estate), but there is still plenty nearby if you’re looking for fun things to do. Thoresby Hall is only a 5 minute drive away with a gym and pool or if you fancy horse riding there are 2 equestrian centres nearby too. Thoresby Hall also has restaurants to visit and in your lodge you’ll find a booklet of local recommendations plus takeaways that will deliver to you! Always handy when all you really want to do in the evening is enjoy the hot tub under the stars or sit on the terrace with a glass of wine.

Wine & a hot tub

With their luxury interiors, gorgeous decking seating areas, and hideaway location we wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Sherwood Hideaway for a short break. Just over an hour from Leicester it’s the perfect place to escape for a few days and get back to nature (knowing that there’s a hot tub and a glass of wine at the end of it!)

Sherwood Hideaway often run special offers on their bookings which you can find out more of on the Sherwood Hideaway website.
