There’s nothing quite like a Christmassy afternoon in the pub, is there? With December already here we’re looking at some of the best spots in the city to get festive, and nowhere hits the spot quite like King Richard III on Highcross Street.

Whether you’re taking a break from shopping or you fancy a tipple after work, here are our top 5 reasons why the King Richard is worth a visit this Christmas.

The decorations

If you don’t feel festive when you walk into the front pub room of King Richard III then there’s no hope. The traditional pub, complete with fireplace, is decked out in beautiful garlands, lovely hand crafted wreaths and of course the large tree placed across from the bar, which continues with the pub’s regal red and gold decorative theme.

Pork pie

Nothing’s more proper Leicester than having pork pie for breakfast on Christmas day, right? Get in the mood with one of the pub’s tasty, fresh pork pies from the bar. They’re the perfect mid-shopping snack and go wonderfully with a glass of festive fizz. (Amazing homemade sausage rolls and scotch eggs also available).

Marquee

There’s no need to miss out on this pub’s gorgeous garden space over Christmas because there’s been a marquee covering put over the space to keep you dry in case of rain.

Festive drinks

Gingerbread or Biscoff Latte, Black Forest Hot Chocolate, Toffee Nut Cappuccino… and that’s before we even hit the booze. From festive coffees to Christmassy cocktails and of course plenty of mulled wine, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Just this week, the pub has unveiled their brand new cocktail bar addition and there are plenty of seasonal specials to come (mine’s a Snowball!). Everything at King Richard III is beautifully put together and the drinks are no exception.

Location

Location location location, it’s all about the location. You couldn’t be in a better position to rest those tired legs and relax with a drink as you finally get to put your shopping bags down or to warm up with a mulled cider after a session on the ice rink. Perfectly situated in between Highcross and Jubilee Square, there’s no excuse not to make the pub your meeting point, starting point or resting point.

King Richard III is located on Highcross Street in the city centre. The pub is open from 11am – 11pm Monday – Thursday, 11am – midnight on Fridays and Saturdays and 12pm – 6pm on Sundays.
