Leicestershire foodies, there’s a new gem to explore out in Hallaton.
The Bewicke Arms is one of Leicestershire’s oldest pubs, located in the beautifully picturesque village of Hallaton. The 16th century inn has now taken a step away from the traditional pub fayre with the introduction of The Thai Kitchen. Whilst still operating as a village pub for people to visit for drinks, you can now enjoy their full Thai menu served from midday into the evening on Tuesday – Sunday.
The pub’s new owners are passionate about Thai cuisine, with the family splitting their time between Leicestershire and Thailand, so careful steps have been taken to ensure there’s authenticity in the dishes. In fact, everything from the crockery to the pub’s wall decor has been brought over from Thailand.
The menu includes popular Thai classics across curries, Thai salads, Pad Thai, rice bowls, ribs and seafood, with extra care taken on presentation and those additional stand out touches.
In terms of spice levels, the kitchen prepare each dish to order so you can go as hot or as mild as you choose to.
If you do like things hot then make sure you order the Garlic & Chilli Prawn starter. The extra large king prawns certainly have the wow factor when they come out. Along with the ribs and gyoza the starters were very impressive, and worth noting that the portions sizes also make them ideal for sharing.
Making our way through seafood noodles (served mild as requested) and beautifully fragrant and spicy red Thai curry, it was clear how enjoyable the experience was when we were already making plans for a return visit.
The pub owners are also very family orientated so there are a number of child friendly options on the menu as well. Of course all dishes can be served mild, and they also offer pizzas with Thai style toppings and traditional children’s meals. The pub itself is also very welcoming for families with 2 mini arcade machines in one of the rooms for youngsters to play on.
Don’t leave without ordering dessert, and make sure you try the traditional Mango & Sticky Rice. Admittedly not something we’d have ordered without recommendation from the owner, but something we’ll certainly be ordering again. The sweet coconut milk with the sticky rice and mango pairs perfectly and offers a wonderfully traditional end to your meal.
The Bewicke Arms is a beautiful pub inside and out. The Thai Kitchen now adds a delicious new reason for you to get a date to visit in your diary.
