There’s another new addition set to open this month in Leicester’s West End as The Metal Monocle arrives as Leicester’s first Steampunk rock bar.
Taking over the site which was previously The Laundry Bar, The Metal Monocle will be throwing open its doors for the first time on Friday 25 October promising something totally different for the area.
We caught up with owner, Caroline, to find out more.
The Metal Monocle is opening soon in Leicester, how long have you been planning the launch of the bar?
The original idea was decided a year ago however we needed to find the correct venue to suit the needs and ideas we required. The name of the bar itself was chosen by the public on fb as we asked for a company name and a bar name and we chose from peoples ideas.
How would you describe the bar and its interior?
There are going to be different areas showing different sides of steampunk there will be victorian themes and nautical themes running throughout this will be something that can be added to with new ideas all the time.
You describe the bar as “a Steampunk Rock Bar”, will music play a big part in what you have planned?
Live music is something we are looking to do regularly this will include cover, original rock bands and steampunk based bands and we are also looking to do open mic nights once established.
What events do you have coming up?
For the grand opening we have a local covers band called Weirdfish playing everything from The Ramones to Blink 182 and The Clash. We’ll also be having student nights every Wednesday and over the winter months we are looking at having quiz nights and gaming (Dungeons and Dragons and Magic the Gathering card nights)
Can you tell us a little about your drinks selection?
We have a good selection of craft ciders and beers and spirits, there will be cocktails on offer. We have no ties to a brewery so can regularly change our key lines and once we’re open there will be plenty of offers
What are you most looking forward to when you open?
Getting the steampunk community more involved and having a chilled out fun place to work.
