National Burger Day is coming round on Thursday 23 August, not that anyone needs an excuse to have a burger, right? So why not check out the best burgers in Leicester, some offers for National Burger Day and also, some of our picks of the very best burgers from around the UK.
None of us are strangers to Crafty, but it’s always worth reminding ourselves of Leicester’s independent burger kings. The biggest, freshest burgers, from the classic Crafty Cheese (beef patty, Red Leicester, American cheese, Crafty sauce) to the “fat one” El Gordo (beef patty, pulled pork, green chilli, ketchup, aioli, Red Leicester, American cheese), they don’t disappoint. Their vegetarian Smokin’ Shroom is also one of the finest veg burgers you’ll encounter too! For this month only (August 2018) you can catch their collaboration with Doughnotts and enjoy their signature patty between a classic Doughnotts doughnut.
Based up on London Road, Boo Burger have been a great addition to the city’s burger scene. Our pick goes to the Haystack with Angus beef patty, crispy onion strings, gherkins, American cheese, house sauce served on brioche. Their halloumi burger is also one of the best in town with huge halloumi chunks, crispy straw onions, tomato and sweet onion relish. If you’re after a low carb option you can have the burger in a lettuce wrap rather than bun and don’t miss their awesome crunchy chicken bites served in choice of sauce.
If you haven’t been to Grays in the LCB Depot then make a special trip. They’re only open Monday – Friday during the day so it’s one for you folk who work in the city centre. Their meat comes fresh from W Archer & Son on Queens Road and they have a new Burger of the Week every week, with everything from a Chip Shop Burger (complete with battered sausage), to burgers topped with pate and crouton. But then, of course you can’t go wrong with their classic burger served with Lyonnaise onions, cheddar and dill butter.
Over in Loughborough Slider Town do just what you’d expect – a great range of mini slider burgers. Our favourites include The French Dip, Chicken Souvlaki, Bubble & Squeak and Spinach Cannelloni – all served in burger form. Plus if you’re heading down on a Wednesday you can get unlimited sliders for £10!
Jones Cafe Bistro
Up on Queens Road, head down to Jones’ for their brilliant bagel burgers. One of our favourites is the Sweet Chilli (large chicken breast, topped with mozzarella, avocado and lashings of sweet chilli sauce), but don’t miss their Double Dip which sees their burger coated in tempura batter then topped with house slaw and chorizo mayo.
The White Bear
Over in Hinckley, The White Bear is everything you’d expect from one of the Steamin’ Billy family and their special burger menu lives up to it too. Special mention goes to The Mexicana, which is made up of 6oz beef burger, spicy melted Mexicana cheese, nacho crisp, grilled chorizo, chipotle mayo & salsa.

Lucky for you you don’t need to travel for this one as they’re coming to Leicester for Canteen on Friday 24 August. Check out this unreal rainbow burger (special on offer at Canteen) or true to their “Freak” name give their Sweet Freak a go with steak patty loaded with caramel waffle, peanut butter, chilli jam, maple syrup, streaky bacon & Swiss cheese.
This is absolutely worth a trip to Birmingham. The R&B is served pink in the middle and comes loaded with red Leicester and black pudding – the burger will melt in your mouth. Feeling hungry? Double up your patty!
Ultimate burger goals. Served red/pink in the middle, go for their double blue or the unreal black & blue, served with black pudding and blue cheese. The menu is short but perfectly formed. 4 locations in London and here’s hoping they expand soon.
Anyone else fancy a burger tour to London? These guys trade at Kerb street food market in London during the week and on Saturdays at Broadway Market. The Truffle Burger comes with a beef and bacon mixed patty, raclette cheese, truffle mayo, fig jam and crispy shallots.
You might know these guys from their appearances at Canteen. They won Britain’s Best Burger at the Street Food Awards and for good reason! Keep your eye out for them coming back to Canteen soon. The meat comes from owner, Dan’s, own farm reared cows and is the very best quality!
