If venturing outside of the city, Quorn is a little foodie hotspot. One of the highlights is a visit to The White Horse, a village pub with a great outdoor space, cocktail menu and more.

We nipped across county to visit the traditional country pub, which has become popular for its excellent menu of steak and seafood, lovely interior with wood furnishings and summer courtyard terrace.

If you’re driving Quorn is an easy drive, a little over 20 minutes from town, and the village has a number of foodie gems and lovely pubs. In fact, I’m planning a Quorn food and drink crawl day as I type! You can also easily jump on the bus from town and the return buses run back until 10.30pm giving plenty of time to enjoy a few drinks.

So, to The White Horse. The pub has become hugely popular due to their menu, featuring pub classics as well as seafood and steak options. Highlights including Pan-fried octopus, shrimp and calamari salad, 10oz sirloin steak, Seafood combo platter and more. For something lighter you can choose Prawn ceviche tacos or their range of fresh stone-baked pizzas.

And a note to mention, they do excellent proper home-fried nachos.

The pub has also spent a lot of time on their beer garden piazza, which has a complete retractable roof so you’re guaranteed a great time in any weather! Complete with heaters it’s a lovely spot to enjoy the evening, even as the nights start drawing in.

Food wise, we sampled the salmon tart, home-fried nachos, the seafood platter and the White Horse burger. All of the food was well presented and came as generous portions. The nachos had the perfect crispy edge and were topped with guac, soar cream, cheese and salsa, whilst the seafood platter had a tasty mix of calamari, salt & pepper squid chunks, prawns, scampi and comes served with both fries and toasted baguette.

The White Horse burger is a beast (you can see why we didn’t make it to dessert). The 8oz beef burger is topped with onion rings, bacon, cheddar & BBQ sauce. and served with skinny fries, coleslaw & onion rings. They also offer a spiced plant based alternative burger, which comes topped with mango chutney, mint yoghurt.

The food isn’t the only reason to visit because they also have an excellent cocktail menu with everything from a Mango Coconut Daiquiri to Espresso Martinis. The perfect excuse for an extended afternoon and evening in the pub. The Lemon Curd Margarita was just that bit too sweet for us (you could order it for dessert!), but top top marks for the excellent Porn Star Martini and Espresso Martini, which comes with real chocolate shavings on top.

Inside the pub there’s also been a bit of a makeover and the front bar has a lovely ambience. The pub has clearly undergone a lot of changes under the current ownership and has a loyal local customer base as well as becoming a little more of a destination. With a fully refurbished setting both inside and out there’s no need to worry about the weather when you visit.

One final gem in The White Horse’s crown is the soon to re-open 505 room. We’ll have more on this soon so keep an eye on our social channels. But let’s just say if you’re a live music fan you won’t want to miss this unique space!
