Over recent years there has been a significant increase in the number of small units being converted into micropubs across the country, and Leicestershire is no exception to this. Now I’m a big fan of these tiny watering holes and often like to visit new and different micropubs to see what they are like. Continuing this interest we decided to visit The Needle & Pin, a small micropub in Loughborough.
Located in Loughborough Town Centre the Needle & Pin is situated in a former electrical shop, but you wouldn’t be able to tell this upon entering the pub having been refurbished inside and out with a light feel to the place.
Here you have a choice of up to 3 real ales available – on our visit they had a pale, a gold and a stout on the pumps. Now compared to other micropubs that we’ve have stopped by having only 3 ales on sale may seem like a low number to have at first, but we’re told this is to help keep stock ticking over and to avoid the prospect of beer going off. Pretty good business sense in our view, and let’s face it, we all hate bad pints don’t we? Suffice to say the ales here were excellent.
As well as ales The Needle & Pin also sell a range of ciders, over 80 world craft beers, wines, Prosecco cocktails and soft drinks. Food-wise you can choose from a range of snacks including crisps, nuts and pork scratchings. If you are feeling really peckish then you can even order a pizza from local pizza shop Peter Pizzaria for delivery to the pub (last orders at 9:00pm).
A selection of entertainment is also present at the Needle & Pin including board games, live music, and quiz nights.
If you are a CAMRA member then good news – discounts on ales are available upon showing your CAMRA card.
Overall we were very impressed with The Needle & Pin – good ales, friendly staff, great atmosphere (for referece our visit was on a Saturday night so it was rather busy). If you are looking for somewhere in Loughborough to enjoy a good ale or two in a relaxed environment then we would have no hesitation in recommending The Needle & Pin to you.
Cool As micropub rating 9/10
