The first Leicester Restaurant Week is taking place from Monday 18 – Saturday 24 October and one of the 30+ venues that’s taking part is Leicester’s independent cinema and arts centre, Phoenix.

We were invited along to sample their Leicester Restaurant Week offer, which is running every day throughout the week in their popular on site Cafe Bar.

The offer at Phoenix includes any meal off their specials menu with a glass of wine or bottled beer for £14. With many of the main meals costing £12 this means that you’re getting a good deal on your drink, for just £2 (around half price for a bottle of Peroni or glass of wine).

The menu is full of classic favourites alongside some other more special Chef’s dishes. The fish & chips here is clearly a favourite, with the team bringing out one after another (it looked fabulous), but we thought we’d go for something a little different.

Other menu options included Confit Duck with dauphinois potato, Rainbow Vegetable Stew, Chicken Risotto, Sausage & Mash and more. We opted for the warming Slow Cooked Beef Stew and the Baked Cod Loin, which sounded delicious served in a lemon cream sauce.

You order your meals at the counter and make your choice of inclusive drink at the same time (we went for a Peroni and a soft drink), then everything is brought to your table by the super friendly staff.

Onto the food and both meals were top quality. The Beef Stew was served with buttery mashed potato, carrots and mushrooms, with the beef tender to pull apart. A real winter warmer dish, perfect for if the weather is as miserable as predicted for Half Term week.

Onto the Baked Cod Loin, which was probably the star of the show. The baked cod sat atop crushed potatoes in a beautiful lemon cream sauce, with mussels and samphire. Absolutely delicious and a very generous portion too. 10/10 would order this dish again. In fact, I’ll probably be back for it later in the week. The cod was cooked beautifully and the cream sauce had a hint of lemon without it being too overpowering.

Phoenix offers a perfect in between option for Leicester Restaurant Week, with good quality food served in a more casual setting and suitable for both lunch or dinner.  Of course, whilst you’re here you can also team dinner with catching a film and Phoenix has the new James Bond showing until Thursday 21 October, as well as Halloween specials at the weekend.

Their Leicester Restaurant Week deal is priced at £14 to include any meal from the Specials menu and a choice of drink (wine, bottled beer, soft drink or hot drink). You don’t need to book a table in advance but make sure you download your voucher from the Leicester Restaurant Week website to claim the deal.
