Twenty1 brings a touch of class with cocktails to an unsuspecting location next to the Great Central Station at Leicester North, Birstall.

We visited the new restaurant on a Wednesday evening to find it bustling and lively. The added bonus of a nice outdoor space also makes it an ideal option for a summer evening (especially as you can enjoy 2 for 1 cocktails from 5pm – 8pm on Wednesdays and Sundays and from 2pm – 5pm on Saturdays). The menu offers Indian cuisine “with a twist” and the menu highlights include Seafood Platter, Lasooni King Prawns, Avocado & Chicken Chaat, Mumbai Duck Tikka, Railway Dhaba and more.

The seafood platter starter offers fried squid, grilled prawns and fried fish and was beautifully done – a must order from us. The monster sized mixed grill sizzler was juicy and flavoursome, with the chicken & keema mix karahi also offering an excellent main course dish. The menu offers a number of vegan dishes and also clearly labels a good number of gluten free options too.

If you manage to leave enough room there’s a fairly succinct dessert menu covering brownie, cheesecakes and Gajar Halwa, with a variety of ice creams also available.

On the bar you’ll find a number of beers (Cobra, Heineken Silver, Guinness, Kronenbourg, Lagunitas IPA), a good wine and spirit selection and a sweet run down of house cocktails (with classic cocktails available on request). Also good to note is that all of their cocktails can be made as non-alcoholic versions if requested. Make your way through the cocktails selection and keep an eye out for the bubbles, smoking and other special effects that are perfect for the ‘gram.

Twenty1 is definitely a lovely addition to Leicester’s restaurant scene. The modern interior makes it a great option for date nights and catch ups with friends, with the outdoor space offering another dimension to the space as a destination spot. We’ll certainly be back for cocktails and chaat on the terrace.

Twenty1 is situated at The Sidings (next to Leicester North station on the Great Central Railway), LE4.
