Good news, music and comedy fans, it looks like Leicester’s City Festival is taking a big turn in a new direction this year with a week long programme of live events in the city. The first acts to be announced include indie favourites British Sea Power and it’s all taking place in a big transparent dome on Jubilee Square!
Teaming together with local independent venues, The Cookie and Firebug, as well as Big Difference Comedy, City Festival will take place from 19 – 26 August and will see a range of music, comedy and other entertainment take place in the heart of the city, all underneath The Dome on Jubilee Square.
First up to be announced, British Sea Power and American singer songwriter BC Camplight will be among the musical highlights, while Sky Sports Soccer AM presenter and stand-up comic Lloyd Griffith will be among the names topping the festival’s comedy programme.
A first for Leicester, The Dome will be the focal point of all City Festival activity, which has previously been spread around the city and various events. During the daytimes, The Dome will host family-friendly activities before transforming into a 500-person capacity performance space for the evenings’ live concerts and shows.
Leicester City Council remains behind City Festival, but this year they have partnered with local venues Firebug and The Cookie on the music programme, while comedy is being hosted in collaboration with the Leicester Comedy Festival team at Big Difference Company.

Monday 19 August (doors 6pm) – BC Camplight

Tickets for both gigs will go on sale on Friday 12 July from Gigantic.
Thursday 22 August – Lloyd Griffith
