In March the streets of Leicester city centre will be lit up with a series of incredible art installations, as Light Up Leicester returns.

Yes, from 12-15 March, town will come alive with these dazzling light installations, plus vibrant performances, and interactive events for all ages.

In our latest BID Leicester Spotlight we’re looking through the installations that will be part of the event.

EVANESCENT

Jubilee Square

Evanescent is an immersive, light and sound temporary environment that aims to capture the idea of the fleeting and quickly vanishing in a visual form: the bubble. 

HULAHOOP

High Street

Hulahoop moves in a mesmerising and hypnotising ballet of lights. Witness a series of geometric patterns orchestrated to the music, flowing in harmony with sound waves in a poetic dance. 

DOUBLE FLUX

Bath House Lane

Moving lines of light shift and pulse in harmony with music, from flowing waves to energetic bursts. Over the past three years Flux has captivated audiences worldwide at festivals and events, blending light, movement, and sound into an unforgettable spectacle.

Market Street

Giant tripods with rotating speakers create orbits of sound and light in this stunning new collaboration between Ray Lee and Darbar Arts. This worldwide touring light and sound installation has been reimagined for Light Up Leicester to feature a fusion of Western classical minimalism and south Indian music, brought to life by young virtuoso Eeshar Singh.

Experience Leicester Cathedral transformed with light and colour, in this large-scale projection that brings the city’s rich history to life! From King Richard III’s legacy to Leicester’s vibrant culture, this dazzling illumination celebrates the stories and spirit that make the city unique. 

NOCTURNAL

NOOR TOWER

Inspired by Moroccan architecture, Noor Tower showcases intricate Islamic geometric patterns. Crafted from laser-cut panels, its interwoven designs echo the ornate tilework and carvings of Moroccan heritage. 

THE BEACON

Clock Tower

A dramatic 2-kilometre-highlight sculpture that uses changing light sequences to symbolise climate change, inviting you to reflect on our planet’s future. The Beacon illuminates the Clock Tower and is also visible as you approach the city!

Inspired by ancient henges found worldwide, this installation seeks to reconnect us with our instincts and ancestral memory. THE ROOTS OF OUR TREE

Richard III Visitor Centre

Explore the deep roots of our incredible city and the tree that connects our diverse communities. This installation is formed after the Young People’s Parade on Wednesday 12 March, featuring over 300 local young people, resulting in a majestic installation that will light up the Richard III Visitor Centre.

MY LEICESTER: FUTURE STORIES TRAIL

As part of Light Up Leicester 2025, local schools and community groups will create vibrant light-painting photographs inspired by the theme “My Leicester: Future Stories” with the team from Urban Canvas. These artworks, celebrating ambition and hope, will be displayed in shop windows across Leicester city centre, transforming the area into an illuminating showcase of creativity and imagnation!
