Marvin Humes is in Leicester next month, bringing his Noughties Baby DJ tour to the O2 Academy on Friday 18 October.
The iconic JLS and The Hit List star, will present the ultimate 00s party, featuring the greatest hits from the decade. We caught up with him to find out more about what you can expect from the night.
Noughties Baby is described as the ultimate 00s party. What can people expect from the event?
I mean, it does exactly what it says on the poster. It’s the biggest tunes from the noughties, all in the mix. Pop, R&B, hip hop, dance, garage, drum n bass, everything goes. Big vibes, big energy, throwing you back to the greatest decade of music. That’s it.
How different is it for you doing solo DJ nights compared to your time in the band?
Yeah, of course it’s different, not performing with a mic in my hand with my three boys. It’s me, still with a mic in my hand, but playing tunes and I’ve got massive screens behind me that play all the videos to the songs that I play as well. It’s a proper immersive experience. Same, same, but different. I love both.
What is your all-time favourite 00s tune?
It’s a really, really tough question. So many bangers to choose from. If I had to pick one, it’d be the Steve Angelo and Laidback Luke remix of Robin S – Show Me Love. Absolute timeless anthem. It doesn’t have to just be Noughties Baby. I play that tune in all my sets anywhere in the world and it always goes off.
And which tunes gets the best crowd reaction?
For Noughties Baby I’d say DJ Sammy – Heaven, also Miley Cyrus – Party in the USA and Natasha Bedingfield – Unwritten. The Killers – Mr Brightside, Amy Winehouse – Valerie, there’s so many!
Which 00s fashion trend do you want to bring back?
When I think about partying back in the noughties, for me, it was always Timberland boots and baggy jeans. People still rock that now, to be fair, but I definitely think that’s a trend that could come back soon.
Without spoiling the surprise, do any JLS songs make the party list?
Of course, absolutely. Be rude not to play some JLS. 100%
Being in a boyband back in the 00s, what was your favourite thing about that era?
I think back then, artists were unapologetically pop. It was at a time where JLS were releasing music, The Saturdays, Girls Aloud, McFly, Taio Cruz, Pixie Lott, Tinie Tempah and Tinchy Strider. It was a great time for pop music. When we used to do shows and it was multi-artist billing, they were always great shows and it’s kind of reflected now in the Noughties Baby show, a real throwback to that era.
Tell us in 5 words why we should come along to the show?
Noughties bangers back-to-back.
