As hospitality begins to look forward to a July comeback, one of our favourites, Grays Coffee Shop & Kitchen, has announced some re-opening plans… including some exciting changes.

Yes, every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from Thursday 9 July, Grays Coffee Shop & Kitchen will be hosting a socially distanced garden party at their home in LCB Depot of Leicester’s Cultural Quarter (which is also also, of course, home to Leicester’s regular monthly street food event, Last Friday).

On these evenings Grays will be offering a fresh, exciting take on the good old-fashioned BBQ, accompanied by a varied range of sides, salads, sauces, and desserts. The food will be the same excellent quality that people have come to expect from Grays and will all be created in their newly renovated kitchen and cooked on their big blue BBQ eggs.

The chefs at Grays have always been mindful meat-eaters, and are self-conscious about where their meat comes from, so customers can rest assured that they only use local suppliers where the meat is traceable, and they know the animals are cared for and have had a happy life.

Popping up alongside Grays will be their very good friends, Bamboo Street Food, offering a fully vegan menu. Hailing from Leicester, they’ve traded at events all over the UK as well as being Last Friday regulars. With their popular vegan menu there’ll be something for everyone to enjoy!

In terms of drinks, there’ll be organic beer and cider from brewers Samuel Smiths, wine selected by local merchants Francis Fine Wines, cocktails with a Grays twist, plus what Grays reckon is “probably” Leicester’s biggest soft drink selection.

From Thursday – Saturday service will run from 5.30pm – 9pm, with limited covers, and the customers having the option of dining inside or al fresco. Tables can be booked for a minimum of 2 people to a maximum of 8. We all like a leisurely dinner so great news that whatever time you book your table for, it’s yours for the night!

Much thought and preparation has gone into the re-opening and all tables will be set out under the social distance guidelines the government have issued, with private rooms also on offer if you wish. Ordering will take place by way of single-use recyclable menus, and a designated order person from your table speaking to one of the Grays team. By offering this type of service and limiting covers the safety of both customers and staff alike can be ensured through minimising movement and contact.

All staff will have appropriate PPE at their disposal, along with full training in necessary processes and guidelines. There’ll be a movement system in place, as well as sanitising stations available for public use.

Sounds good, right? Bookings can be made from 29 June onwards. Check out the Grays Instagram page for more info and updates on food & drink menus.
