Foodies, it’s time to get excited for a flavour invasion as Leicester finally gets a new Thai restaurant. Giggling Squid will brings its tasty Thai flavours, fresh ingredients and lively dining experience to St Martin’s Square in early 2020.
Giggling Squid stays true to how people eat their meals in Thailand. Sharing and celebrating an abundance of flavours and fresh ingredients, whether you have more adventurous tastes or prefer simple and satisfying.
The chain was founded by Thai-born Pranee Laurillard and her husband Andrew (Giggling Squid is actually the nickname of one of their children). Pranee explains: “For me, what was missing from the food scene was that Bangkok feel – energetic, informal, adventurous, where food is celebrated, and you don’t have to dress up to enjoy it. It’s relaxed, no standing on ceremony – just having a good time, over something tasty.”
Now, 32 restaurants later, Leicester is the nest stop for the quirky dining experience.
Featuring Giggling Squid’s unique, bright interior with its nod to the ingredients from the sea and the land, the new 100 cover restaurant in Leicester will even include flowers picked and pressed for wall features by Pranee herself.
So what can you look forward to on the menu? Giggling Squid favourites include the bestselling Salt & Pepper Squid (fresh squid with a touch of salt and pepper in a light, crispy coating) and creamy Massaman Curry (a legendary flavoured curry, simmered in coconut milk and perfumed with cumin, cinnamon and star anise). The popular lunchtime tapas menu includes the great value tapas sets such as the Starving Squid (Chicken Red Curry, Pork Dumplings, Thai Spring Rolls, Jasmine Rice). Vegetarian options and separate vegan menus are also available.
Not only for adults, younger children will enjoy the relaxed Thai style dining experience and a dedicated ‘little tapas for little people’ for more delicate taste buds offers a welcome alternative to pizza and chips.
