Fancy picking up a new skill this summer? How about trying paddle boarding?

Stand up paddle boarding is a fun new sport that combines adventure and exercise in the great outdoors. Working with Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre with support from Leicester Rowing Club you now have the chance to try it for yourself on the River Soar near Bede park, as they’re offering some free taster sessions this summer.

The sessions will last 2 hours and are suitable for anyone over 8 years old. Canal & River Trust East Midlands will be running the sessions and they’re taking place at the following times:

  • Friday 26th July Morning session 10:00 – 12:00
  • Friday 26th July Afternoon session 13:00 – 15:00
  • Thursday 8th August Morning session 10:00 – 12:00

Daniel Du Heaume, Community & Youth Events Co-ordinator for the Canal & River Trust, said, “Stand up paddle boarding is getting really popular and it’s a great way to be active and discover your local waterways.”

“We’ve got such amazing waterways in Leicester that are right on the doorstep for so many people and freely accessible. That makes them incredibly valuable, important spaces for us all and we want to encourage more and more people to feel the health and wellbeing benefits of spending time by water.”

“Waterways are great places to keep in shape or to escape the pressures of modern life and the brilliant thing about stand up paddle boarding is that it combines the two. Most of all it’s great fun and so we’d encourage people to book onto one of the sessions and have a go at something a bit different.”
