Every December attention turns to foodie Christmas specials. With so many venues in Leicester producing some epic festive food we’ve picked out a few of our favourites.
Why not see how many you can try this month?
Bitsy’s Festive Grilled Cheese
It’s everything you want in a Christmas sandwich. Oozing with brie, cranberry, shredded pan fried sprouts, (vegan) pigs in blankets, stuffing and all packed in the tastiest Hambleton bread. Available from Bitsy’s Emporium at The Mill.
Grays Christmas Hash
We all know that Grays do some of the best food in the city centre and this festive season they’ve got a great 2 or 3 course menu running through weekday lunchtimes. Our pick is the Christmas Hash with slow cooked turkey thigh, pulled ham hock, crispy potato, braised swede, parsnip and carrot, roast sprouts, cavolo nero shaved pecorino, cranberry and turkey, bacon & sage gravy. They also have a veggie hash available too, plus some epic festive burgers. Available from Grays at LCB Depot.
John Dory Quorn’s Christmas Dinner
The John Dory Christmas dinner is a sight to behold. The brilliant Quorn based fish & chip shop is treating you to battered pigs in blankets, battered stuffing balls, chips, gravy and homemade cranberry sauce. Sign us up!
Wistow Festive Ciabattas
Enjoy a festive day out at Wistow Cafe Bistro with one of the festive ciabattas – so good we had to feature both. First up we have the traditional Christmas dinner ciabatta with turkey, stuffing, cranberry and lettuce, topped with a pig in blanket. For vegetarians don’t miss their ciabatta stuffed with warm goats cheese and topped with hazelnuts, drizzled in honey.
Hambleton Bakery Christmas Tart
What a beauty. The light puff pastry tart is filled with bacon, sausage, stuffing & fresh cranberries, making a great festive lunchtime or light supper alternative. Available from Wigston Fields News & Deli.
The Christmas Sarnie from Holly’s Coffee Shop
A proper Christmas sandwich! This beauty from Holly’s on St Martin’s comes filled with thick turkey and stuffing, a layer of cranberry and topped with a pig in blanket.
The Burgerologist Christmas Burger
The absolute beast of Christmas burgers. The Christmas Cracker comes with Smashed turkey patty, sage mayo, cranberry and red onion honey chutney, sage, chestnut & onion stuffing, crispy sprouts, pigs in blankets and dipping jus. Find the Burgerologist at village locations including Rothley, Wymeswold, Barron upon Soar, Asfordby, Old Dalby and Quorn. Check their social media for the latest pop-up locations.
Christmas Pie from The Windmill Inn, Brascote
We sampled these last year and we’re delighted to see them back again. The Christmas Dinner pie from Love Pies comes filled with Camembert, turkey and cranberry, fully encased in soft pastry. They also do a Pig & Blanket pie and vegetarian Christmatarian Pie with sweet potato, chestnut, cranberry and Red Leicester. The pies are available to order for collection from the pub and come frozen for you to enjoy at home. Order online from The Windmill website. You can also order from Mill Hill Cask & Coffee in Enderby.
Pigs ‘n’ Blankets Pizza at Treetop Adventure Golf
Add some Christmas fun to your visit to Treetop Adventure Golf with their festive Pigs ‘n’ Blankets pizza served from their jungle Pizza Cabana. Slices of pork sausage and bacon come on a gooey mozzarella and tomato base, topped with a smattering of cranberry sauce. It’s a pizza you can’t miss this Christmas. Available daily through December.
Festive Dirty Fries from The Three Crowns, Barrow
Get over to The Three Crowns in Barrow upon Soar for their festive dirty fries. Fries topped with melted cheese, pigs in blankets, homemade stuffing & chefs special gravy
Tiny Bakery Santa Croissant
It’s well known that the bakers at The Tiny Bakery are kings of Leicestershire pastry and the Christmas croissant is one not to be missed. The December special has a surprise inside as it’s filled with a white chocolate ganache & hazelnut.
The Grand Hot Chocolate from St Martin’s Coffee
Now THAT is a hot chocolate. Enjoy Blendsmiths hot chocolate blend, caramel syrup, whipped cream, Biscoff sprinkles and chocolate flakes. You can even add in your favourite liqueur. Choose from Baileys, whisky, rum or Mozart chocolate liqueur.
The Oat Hill’s Gingerbread Espresso Martini
We had to include a Christmas cocktail, didn’t we? We love The Oat Hill in Market Harborough and this year they’ve got a special Gingerbread Espresso Martini, adding a festive hint to our favourite cocktail.
