Don’t worry about designated drivers because the brewery is just a few steps away from Oakham railway station, so you can jump on the train at Leicester and be at their door in no time at all.
The brewery tours offer a brilliant afternoon out and you even get lunch (or supper) plus two hours of UNLIMITED real ale thrown in too. (Hence the designated driver point above, nobody needs to miss out!)
The Grainstore Brewery Tap opened its doors back in September 1995 and today is recognised as one of the best brew pubs in Britain. As well as the brewery, they have a traditional on site pub setting which offers a full food menu and drinks range. Don’t just take our word for it as The Good Pub Guide crowned them with ‘Own Brew Pub of the Year’ on no less than four occasions in 2003, 2011, 2014 and 2016.
Whilst admittedly our knowledge of real ale is somewhat limited, the tour caters for all levels of beer drinkers and offers an opportunity to learn about the brewing process, see the Grainstore beers made first hand and you’ll even get to have a go at some of the special brewing processes. Following the tour you’ll head back downstairs to the lovely on site pub and be guided through 3 third pint samples relating to the beers that you’ve learnt about on the tour.
It doesn’t end there though as the tours also include a Ploughman’s lunch or supper (including famous local Pork Pie, cheeses, real ale chutney made on the premises and bread baked using Grainstore’s own yeast) and a choice of drinks packages:
