Following the success of last year’s event, Design Season 2 (DS2) returns this October with plenty of activities and events for both those within the design world and the general public. Taking place from 4th – 25th October in and around Leicester, DS2 will encompass a design and designer led season of collaborations, talks, events, exhibitions, workshops and activities.

Over 3 weeks Leicester will celebrate design through an innovative programme, which will be led by the creative sector in the city and county.

Did you know Leicester is actually home to the second largest design cluster outside of London?

October will see these businesses come together to collaborate on an engaging programme of events targeted at both businesses and the general public. Whether your interest lies in architecture, virtual reality, typography, fashion or interiors, there’ll be events for you to immerse yourself in.

LRSA (Leicestershire & Rutland Society of Architects) have once again programmed a number of key activities, including an awards evening, guided walking tours and even a pub crawl of historic public houses in the city. These events will also be complemented by a Planning Forum around the city centre, an exhibition around graphic representations of urban heritage and a chance for families to get involved in a Design Your City daytime event.

One of the most exciting additions to this year’s DS2 programme is the Design Trail. Interested parties will be able to guide themselves around places of interest in the city as well as enjoy open studio tours from some of the city’s most innovative designers and makers. This is a really unique opportunity to see behind the scenes of the studios who are making such big waves on a national and international level.

James Burkmar, Workspace Manager at Leicester’s design hub LCB Depot, commented, “We’re really excited with the programme that’s been put together for DS2. There is so much talent in the city and county and the 3 week season offers a snapshot of the exciting and innovative work that’s taking place on our doorstep.”

“As well as talks, collaborations, workshops and networking for those involved in the industry we’re also excited to be working on more public facing projects including a trail of LEGO designs across the city in partnership with BID Leicester, a chance for the public to design their own virtual reality at Phoenix and, of course, our studio open days which will offer a unique insight behind the scenes.”

The full programme for DS2 will be released in mid-September and will be available in full from the www.designseason.uk.
