Remarkably it’s been a year already since Doughnotts landed in Leicester and opened their shop on Silver Street. We caught up with Doughnotts Sales & Marketing Manager, Lauren Llewellyn, part of the team behind the amazing doughnut creations, to find out how the year has gone and how they’re planning to celebrate.

Doughnotts Leicester turns 1 this weekend, how has your first year trading in Leicester been?
It’s been an incredible year for Doughnotts , we have been welcomed so well by the people of Leicester.

Tell us a bit about Doughnotts for people who still haven’t been in to see you and try one?
Doughnotts is an independent company selling handmade non vegan and vegan doughnuts across the midlands, we have three stores including Leicester, Nottingham and Derby.

How do you think you stand out compared to some of the large national brands like Krispy Kreme?
All of our doughnuts are individually hand decorated and made with love,  we specialise in vegan dough and source the highest quality ingredients.

You’ve recently launched your smaller mini Doughnotts. What was the thinking behind this and when can people get them?
We decided to launch our Mini D’s in store as we wanted to offer a cheaper alternative, they are great for children, special occasions and if you want a little treat to dunk in your coffee.

Which flavours are your best sellers?
Ooooo I would say Salted Caramel (vegan), Snicka and Red Velvet.

What do you have planned for this weekend’s birthday celebrations?
We have a special offer of 3 for £6 on all doughnuts, all weekend. We also have limited edition 10 inch doughnuts available to purchase in store and a raffle to win lots of prizes.

You also do massive doughnut birthday cakes, are these available to order all the time and what flavours do they come in?
We have started to make celebration cakes, which are 3 x 10 inch doughnuts piled on top of each other topped with even more doughnuts. These are £60 and available in Red Velvet or Salted Caramel (vegan).

If you weren’t making doughnuts what would you be doing?
Business owner Wade said he would still be at Central College in the marketing team where he started his apprenticeship.

Who are some of your favourite other Leicester independents?
We have a great relationship with 96 Coffee by numbers (Leicester Tigers) they often wholesale from us at home games. We also love SET Design, a quirky gift shop not too far from the shop (on High Street).

What does the next 12 months hold for Doughnotts?
We are currently planning on opening 2 new stores in the next year, locations are a secret!
