How quickly a year has gone by! Tonne in St Martin’s Square will be celebrating their first year in business this weekend with some brilliant activities, mixed in with the usual craft beer and cocktail fun. Find out what you can expect in this week’s BID Spotlight.
The bar, based in St Martin’s Square, is perhaps best known for having Leicester’s largest craft beer selection as well as cocktails on draft, beer flights, and always plenty of fun. Over Friday 21 and Saturday 22 February you can pop down to help them celebrate.
Expect everything you usually expect from Tonne but amplified. Music, beer, cocktails and fun. On Saturday the brilliant guys from Campfire Trailer will also be taking over the top floor with some amazing cocktail creations, made just for the birthday celebrations. If you’ve tried Campfire’s cocktails before you’ll know just what a treat you’re in for!
They’re even teaming up with Brothers Ink to offer special Tonne tattoos for £20… fancy getting one? You’ll get a free shot and discount off your drinks if you do!
We caught up with manager, John, to find out more about the birthday celebrations and their first year.

How has the first year been for Tonne?
We’ve had a fantastic response from Leicester and beyond. We as a team and an independent business have enjoyed ourselves and kept true to what we set out to do. The support has been incredible and long may it continue. Thank you to our friends and family, our industry and our customers.
Do you have any particular highlights?
Plenty, from fixing that Smeg door over the “cellar” entrance in the first place, then seeing people’s reaction to opening it, all the way through to still explaining how we keg our on tap cocktails in house.
What are you most excited about for the birthday weekend?
Raising a glass to say cheers!
How would you describe Tonne to anyone who hasn’t been?
Like something out of a sales brochure – good atmosphere, good product, plenty of puns, a tongue in cheek approach to having fun in life.
What is it that makes St Martin’s Square such a special place to be?
The sense of community that we all share. Bringing the life and soul of the party has been made a lot easier when we have such a good offering in the area at the minute.
What exciting things have you got planned as you head into your second year?
Well you’ll have to wait and see won’t you! Expect more of what’s come before and a little of something extra. We’re working on a few bits in the pipeline but without giving anything away, just keep your eyes on our socials. 😉
