With the new year upon us there’s plenty to look forward to as we move into 2021.
From restaurant openings to events, we’ve got every finger crossed for a much brighter year. In our last BID Spotlight of the year we’re running through a few things that we can get excited for in Leicester.
The team behind Birmingham’s Lasan group are set to open Sonrisa, a Latin cocktail bar and restaurant offering Argentine-style food with small plates of meat, seafood and vegetables. The restaurant will open in the former Delilah building in the new year.
Leicester Comedy Festival
February just wouldn’t be February without Leicester Comedy Festival. The event will absolutely be back in 2021! Promoters and venues across the city have pulled together a fantastic programme of both online and in person events so that everybody is able to get involved. You can view the latest event programme over on the Comedy Festival website.
If you’re a fan of KAI’s epic pancakes then you’ll be excited about this one. The team being KAI are opening a pizza restaurant, PAI, in the unit opposite them in St Martin’s Square. If the pizza is as good as their breakfasts then we’re in for a right treat! They’ll be opening in St Martin’s Square in the new year.
Bring The Paint
The incredible Bring The Paint festival is returning in 2021. The street art across Leicester has without doubt transformed the city and we’re set to enjoy even more of it as top artists from across Europe descend on the city for some fantastic creations. The event team are currently planning new paint sites and more info will be announced soon. Follow them on Facebook for the latest updates.
Get a taste of something different in 2021 as Afrikana Kitchen is set to open soon on Charles Street. The brand seeks to offer authentic home-cooked African inspired dishes surrounded by art, music, culture and great food. They’ll be opening in the new year on Charles Street. Find out more about the opening in our news piece.
East Street Fitness
East Street Lanes is set to open a brand new fitness facility. Transforming their in house East Street Events space will be a boutique and modern gym area hosting classes and equipment. Expect nightclub lighting and an epic sound system to make your fitness journey as fun as possible. There’s also set to be a co-working space opening within the venue too. Follow them on Instagram from the latest updates.
King Richard III
The King Richard III pub on Highcross Street is set to re-open in the new year. The city centre pub underwent a refurbishment under the previous owners and since the new management took over they’ve not been able to open their doors due to Covid. Ideally located near Highcross it’s a perfect post-shopping drink stop. We’re certainly looking forward to a visit as soon as we can.
